Do you want to work in an organization where collaboration, development, and patient needs are at the center? We are now looking for an experienced occupational therapist for Specialist Rehabilitation at Karlstad Central Hospital, offering a varied and meaningful role within oncology inpatient care and the palliative team.
Your workplace
Specialist Rehabilitation at Karlstad Central Hospital is a unit within the health and rehabilitation area. Approximately 80 employees work within specialist rehabilitation in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and music and art therapy. Rehabilitation assistants are also employed at the unit. Specialist rehabilitation works with rehabilitation across several different clinics at Karlstad Central Hospital, such as neurology, geriatrics, oncology, infectious diseases, pediatrics, women's health, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, ICU, and more, in both outpatient and inpatient care.
Approximately 25 occupational therapists work within Specialist Rehabilitation, providing good opportunities for collegial exchange and knowledge transfer. There is close collaboration in daily operations, meaning we help and support each other. We work based on a career development model that describes how one can develop in clinical work.
Working in our organization requires flexibility, as well as the willingness and ability to work both in teams and independently. We believe that healthcare must be based on our patients' needs and employees' competence. We want to drive healthcare forward together with our employees.
In Region Värmland, we work with health-promoting workplaces, which means we focus on health factors, offer opportunities for physical activity during working hours, and provide wellness allowances. The region as an employer also offers other benefits. As a permanent employee, for example, you get a 50% discount on annual public transport passes.
Your responsibilities
We are now looking for an experienced occupational therapist for a shared role in oncology inpatient care and the palliative team.
You will be part of a small work group within inpatient care, where there is very close collaboration to meet patients' needs for occupational therapy assessments and interventions. There are 14 occupational therapists in total within inpatient care who collaborate between the smaller work groups to meet patient needs. This may involve short interventions where occupational therapy activity assessment is important for further planning, as well as longer rehabilitation periods for patients with longer hospital stays, where you are part of the team surrounding the patient.
You will also be part of the palliative team, which is multidisciplinary and currently consists of doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists. The team primarily works with adult cancer patients whose disease cannot be cured. In collaboration with municipal district nurses, the team works to ensure that the patient, to the greatest extent possible, has the opportunity to be cared for safely in their own home until the end of life. Great importance is placed on providing family and relatives with advice and support to enable them to remain involved and feel secure.
Your role is to strengthen the patient's independence, relieve symptoms, and create meaning in everyday life – even in the final stages of life. This is achieved through improved symptom relief via activity-based strategies, ergonomics, and positioning. You will support patients in meaningful activities and adapt activities according to energy levels, pain, and functional capacity.
Including an occupational therapist in the palliative team is a project that will run for one year before being evaluated. The possibility of continuing to include an occupational therapist in the team will then be reviewed. If the project does not continue, the employment will continue within Specialist Rehabilitation.
Your skills and competencies
We are looking for you who are a licensed occupational therapist with experience in the profession and an interest in end-of-life care and oncology, and who want to help develop the operations together with the rest of the team. Experience from similar work is considered an advantage. As a person, you are confident in your professional role, structured, and independent. You collaborate well with others and consider the best interests of the entire operation in your actions and decision-making. Since the role involves travel, you must have a valid driver's license (Category B). Interviews may be held continuously during the application period.
