Personal Assistant for a Positive Young Man with Autism – 24-Hour Shifts with On-Call

About the Position

Are you interested in joining my work team as a personal assistant? My current team consists of wonderful personal assistants whom I am very satisfied with. Now, I need to add one more person who wants to help build the team together with me and contribute to developing my good quality of life.

You will work 24-hour shifts from 09:00 to 09:00, providing single-assistance with on-call duties at night. If you are interested, please get in touch!

About the Client

I am a positive young man in my prime 38 years, with autism and intellectual disability (IF). I have my own accommodation. My interests include daily trips by car, walking, swimming, playing keyboard, watching YouTube, and listening to Spotify – specifically rap and hip-hop music.

As a personal assistant, you need to be fundamentally secure, clear, cheerful, and calm. I need help from you, among other things, with communication with other people. Routines, structure, and visual supports are important to me.

The job as a personal assistant with me primarily means that you and I get along well and can build a good relationship. Humor makes it much easier when building a relationship. It is also an advantage if you have knowledge and experience that can be useful when we work together.

My assistants have a curiosity to learn more and develop in the field of assistance work, which means I gain a continuously increasing quality of life, which I naturally benefit from and which makes my life richer in many ways.

At my place, my assistants also work with a low-arousal approach both towards me and within the work team. This is a prerequisite for me to thrive and feel good. There is also an approach that involves creating joy and well-being for me every day, which I appreciate greatly.

Something that is also very important to me is to be involved and decide on most daily decisions. This helps me strengthen my self-esteem and independence.

Tasks:

• Support the client in communication.
• Participate in activities inside the home, e.g., conversations, IT/YouTube, music.
• Participate in activities outside the home, e.g., daily walks and outings.
• Support the client during activities at day programs.
• Help the client with cooking/baking.
• Keep the home environment clean and pleasant, care for the client's belongings, and handle occasional outdoor chores at the house, e.g., some snow shoveling and lawn mowing.
• Prevent and manage frustrations and problem-causing situations.
• Create a daily meaningful and positive experience for the client.
• Encourage and provide conditions for the client's daily decision-making, involvement, and independence.

Requirements for the position:

• Basic computer skills.
• Category B driver's license (manual transmission) and own car, as there is limited access to public transport.
• Requires some flexibility and availability on holidays and during school breaks.
• The client has a car that can be used for work.
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
• A merit if you have knowledge/experience working with people with autism.
• Be willing to work according to the methods used by the client.
• Participate in continuous supervision and monthly workplace meetings.
• Provide a certificate of good conduct (police record). It is an advantage if you order the record before the job interview.
