The Court of Appeal for West Sweden is the second largest of the country's six courts of appeal. The Court's main task is to review cases and matters appealed from the district courts within its jurisdiction. The court is organized with four judicial divisions and one administrative division. Approximately 150 people work at the court. The court is located in central Gothenburg.

About the Position

The training position normally lasts four years and begins with one year of service as a Court of Appeal Prosecutor (Hovrättsfiskal). As a Court of Appeal Prosecutor, you will present cases, draft proposals for judgments and decisions, and keep records during main hearings.

Afterwards, you will serve as a District Court Prosecutor (Tingsfiskal) for two years at one of the district courts within the Court of Appeal's jurisdiction. As a District Court Prosecutor, you will handle and judge cases and matters, both independently and together with other judges at the district court. During this service, you will usually also supervise notaries.

After serving at the district court, you return to the Court of Appeal for one year of adjuncture (adjunktion). You will serve as a member and participate in collegial judgments.

Throughout the training service, you will receive guidance from experienced, permanent judges and undergo a theoretical training program provided by the Court Academy. In addition, we offer a number of internal training sessions and study visits.

After completing and passing the adjuncture year, you will receive an appointment as a Court of Appeal Assessor, and the special judges' training program is thereby completed.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have completed the notary education according to the Notary Ordinance (1990:469) with very good grades and have Swedish citizenship and meet other requirements set in Chapter 4, Section 1 of the Code of Judicial Procedure.

Very good legal knowledge and analytical skills combined with a very good ability to prioritize are required. You express yourself clearly, concisely, and correctly both orally and in writing.

We are looking for you with great maturity, integrity, and very good judgment. As a person, you are receptive to others' opinions, have very good communication skills, and enjoy collaborating with others.

To be considered for employment, you must also meet high requirements regarding security awareness and suitability. This means that you stand up for democratic values and the public sector values that govern the operations of the Courts of Sweden.

Application

The Court of Appeal hires Court of Appeal Prosecutors four times a year. The Court usually hires approximately 20 Court of Appeal Prosecutors each year.

Applications are submitted via the recruitment tool Visma Recruit. Attach your CV, cover letter, and a copy of your degree certificate from the Law Program, including grades. Also attach your notary grades, or alternatively, state the date when your notary qualifications are expected to be completed.

When you apply for the position of Prosecutor, your application is stored in our applicant bank where the application remains active for six months. During this time, there is an opportunity to supplement your application with additional grades or references. There is also an opportunity to extend your application for another six months if you request it. If you are no longer interested in a position as a Prosecutor, the Court would appreciate a message to this effect.

Selection

After the application period ends, all applicants are asked to complete work psychological tests. If you have completed the Court of Appeal's tests during the last two years, you can choose whether you want to retake the tests or reuse previous results. You will receive a link to the tests where you can choose to retake them or reuse previous results.

When the testing period has expired, the Court of Appeal reviews the applicants' application documents, test results, and obtains references. The number of people called for interviews is determined by the Court of Appeal's admissions committee based on the applicant's qualifications and the Court of Appeal's and district courts' need for Prosecutors.

This recruitment concerns one or more positions. Court of Appeal Prosecutors are employed on probation according to the Employment Protection Act (1982:80) with a probation period of six months.

In accordance with the Court of Appeal's employment routines and suitability requirements, the Court of Appeal will obtain information from the criminal record register in the event of employment.
