Speech and Language Therapist for the Children's Team – Rehabilitation Center Västerås
Are you looking for a job that is interesting, varied, and where you play a meaningful role? Welcome to the Rehabilitation Center in Västerås and the unit for intellectual disabilities! We are currently looking for a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) for our children's team.
Our workplace is characterized by interdisciplinary team work and strong cohesion. You will create opportunities for our patients to live a good life while helping to develop the operations together with us.
Responsibilities
As an SLT at the unit for intellectual disabilities (IF-unit), your main areas of work will be communication, oral motor skills, and eating and swallowing abilities. The concept of communication includes voice and speech, language, as well as various alternative and/or augmentative communication methods (AAC). In addition to direct patient work, the job involves informing, mentoring, and supporting parents, relatives, and various staff groups. You are expected to lead groups and provide training in communication to patients and networks. The work includes collaboration with healthcare partners and various authorities, such as psychiatry and municipal operations.
We work in interdisciplinary teams with psychologists, counselors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and special educators, which enables continuous exchange of knowledge and competence. In many cases, we develop joint proposals for measures aimed at increasing the patient's participation and independence in daily life. There is a strong sense of camaraderie in the team; we care for one another and have a close relationship with laughter. You will have the opportunity to influence and plan your workday, as well as contribute to and drive improvement work within the IF-unit.
Within the IF-unit, you will have two SLT colleagues, one in the children's team and one in the adult team. You will have a close and supportive collaboration, helping each other within the unit and across team boundaries within the Rehabilitation Center.
About the Workplace
The Rehabilitation Center is a specialist operation with specific competence regarding disabilities in the areas of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, movement disorders, visual impairment, and acquired brain injury. We also have an interpreter coordination assignment for persons with deafness, deafblindness, and hearing impairment. Our clinics are located in Västerås, Köping, and Fagersta. Approximately 144 employees work within the operation.
There are several SLTs within the entire Rehabilitation Center, giving you the opportunity for professional exchange and support in your work. The IF-unit's mission is to provide services to children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our patients often have other diagnoses as well, such as autism, movement disorders, and various syndromes. We have the opportunity to follow our patients over time, creating long-term contacts and witnessing the progress and results of our work.
