Are you a doctor at the beginning of your career with a holistic view and interest in teamwork?
Welcome to apply to one of our clinics operating in Västerås and Sala!
With us, you will have a stimulating position with varied tasks within inpatient care. We work in teams with a holistic perspective on the patient and value good clinical supervision and collaboration.
Responsibilities
As a junior doctor in our departments, you will work together with the responsible specialist doctor and the rest of the team, which consists of nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and speech therapists. Teamwork means that we place great importance on collaboration between the different professional categories when we work patient-centered.
Your responsibilities include assessing patients, including taking medical histories, physical examinations, and medical assessments, as well as initiating treatment and follow-up during the hospital stay. Conversations with patients and relatives are an important part of the work. These tasks, along with the associated documentation, will provide you with valuable experience for your upcoming AT or BT.
About the workplace
Geriatric Clinic
The Geriatric Clinic is a specialist operation consisting of three units: Geriatric Acute Ward, Geriatric Rehabilitation Ward, and Geriatric Outpatient Clinic. Here, we provide care focused on the elderly and frail patient as well as cognitive assessments for all patients in Region Västmanland.
In the Geriatric Acute Ward, you will meet patients who are directly admitted from the emergency department as well as patients transferred from the orthopedic department after acute hip surgery for postoperative care. Here, we work comprehensively in teams with a patient focus for our frail elderly patients with acute illnesses, according to the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment model. In this acute ward, you will encounter most conditions that this patient group suffers from, including acute heart failure, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, acute confusion states, fractures, and endocrine diseases such as diabetes.
In the Geriatric Rehabilitation Ward, you will meet patients with a significant need for multiprofessional rehabilitation after brain injury or other conditions that have resulted in complex care needs requiring rehabilitation in the aftermath. Your tasks mainly consist of working with your responsible specialist to keep the patient medically stable to enable the necessary rehabilitation and lead the teamwork.
In both wards, you will be responsible for 8 patients together with your supervising specialist doctor.
Primary Care East
Primary Care East operates in both Sala and Västerås. The clinic includes primary care in the form of primary care wards and home care teams, specialized palliative outpatient and inpatient care, rehabilitation, and outpatient services within internal medicine. As a junior doctor at the clinic, you will work in our three care wards – Ward 1 in Sala, the Primary Care Ward (NÄVA) in Västerås, and the Palliative Ward in Västerås.
Ward 1 and NÄVA are primary care wards for adult patients with complex needs where a holistic view is more important than organ specialist competence. The goal is to optimize care with a focus on what benefits the individual, rather than maximizing healthcare interventions. This includes clear planning for discharge from the hospital to create security for both the patient and those who will take over care after discharge. Both wards consist of 16 beds divided into two teams, where the medical staffing consists of one senior physician and two junior physicians.
The Palliative Ward consists of 12 beds for patients from all over Västmanland with specialized palliative care needs. Patients can stay in the ward for shorter or longer periods for help with symptom relief before discharge, but many patients also remain until death. A senior physician and a junior physician staff the ward.
For us, it is important that you feel good and enjoy your job, therefore we offer you
- tailored orientation program to make you feel secure and confident in your professional role
- opportunity for professional development through internal training
- a workplace for different stages of life
- free access to our fully equipped gym
- wellness allowance of 3000 SEK/year
