Flexible Nurse Wanted for Infectious Diseases Care

Are you a flexible nurse who enjoys variety, fast-paced work, and teamwork? Here is your chance to try working in infectious diseases care!

“As a newly graduated nurse, I think ward 20 was the perfect place to start.
I have learned a lot about infectious diseases, multimorbidity, medications, and medical technology. I have also learned to prioritize my work in a sometimes high-paced environment, which has been important for me as a newcomer in the profession. Fortunately, I have learned all this in a positive and supportive environment with wonderful and helpful colleagues!” - Tyra, nurse, one year at the clinic

Our Offer

For life ahead. Region Östergötland has high ambitions and a responsible mission. It is about health and care, about the development of our region, and about those who live and stay here. We want to continue to be at the forefront, with care, research, and education. This means daring to think anew – and having the best employees. Therefore, we offer unique opportunities for further learning and invest in modern environments with effective systems and tools. Many of us meet patients and relatives, while others create the conditions for life-saving interventions. With us, fantastic people work towards the same goal – to make a real difference, and for life ahead.

Job Description

As a nurse in ward 20, you are the team leader for the team working around the patient. The team, in addition to the nurse, consists of other professionals such as nursing assistants, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers. Other support functions available are care coordinators and coordinators. On weekdays, our most experienced nurses are also available in a supportive role to assist the care teams with complicated questions and advanced patient cases.

As a nurse, you are responsible for advanced nursing care, medications, medical technical procedures, and creating structure for daily planning including rounds. The everyday life in ward 20 is very varied with a wide range of diagnoses and patient clientele. The pace of work is also variable. These variations in work mean that as a nurse you must be flexible and able to adapt to the situations you face. This allows you to gain experience and breadth early on. You also need to stay updated on the latest research and treatments in infectious care, which means you are curious and always have a desire to learn and develop. The unique competence of the infectious clinic includes caring for diseases that require isolation and the application of special hygiene routines to prevent transmission to/from patients and healthcare staff.

“Over the years, there has been a good atmosphere in the workplace with colleagues who care for each other. Varied patients and a fast pace, where you always learn something new. There is always a new outbreak that you need to familiarize yourself with” - Björn, nurse, 38 years at the clinic
“During my five years in infectious care, I still feel that I have much left to learn. A clinic with a broad and changing patient group where you are introduced to new things all the time” - Albin, nurse, 5.5 years at the clinic

Work Group

The infectious clinic is a regional clinic with about 160 employees. In ward 20, we have a workgroup with both experienced and relatively new employees. Here, it is important that we take responsibility for the work together and that we are each other's work environment. As an employee at the infectious clinic, you are included in the community and become an obvious part of the team. We believe we have an environment where everyone continuously learns new things and that it is very important to have a learning and open climate where you always dare to ask questions. We have a clear structure for continuous development and information dissemination in the form of internal and external lectures, weekly department meetings, weekly newsletters, and through collaboration with the infectious department at the university hospital.

“The reason I work in infectious care is the colleagues – we are a great team! And here we help each other – no questions are stupid questions.” - Kristina, nurse, 8 years at the clinic
