Innovation Strateg at the Total Defence Research Institute (FOI)

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defence and security to support Sweden's military and civil defence. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capability.

About the Position

We are looking for an innovation strategist focused on developing and strengthening FOI's work with innovation. The role involves clarifying, developing, and implementing methods, processes, and practices that support innovation within the organization. You will serve as a strategic and operational support to managers and employees in innovation matters and contribute to creating good conditions for new ideas to be developed and implemented in practice. The work is carried out in close collaboration with other actors in the defence sector, not least the Armed Forces and FMV, where cooperation is central to realizing renewal and applications that meet needs both in the short and long term.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and strengthening FOI's methods and processes for defence innovation
  • Contributing to improved conditions for innovation in collaboration with other defence authorities, including a focus on needs-driven development and an effective overall approach from initiation to realization
  • Providing proactive and coaching support to FOI's managers and employees in innovation matters and methodology
  • Identifying and analyzing best practices, nationally and internationally, to promote innovation and renewal
  • Working at the interface between technology, business, and management
  • Participating in external forums and networks to develop FOI's contacts and capture ideas and opportunities for enhanced defence innovation.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Office for Innovation Coordination, which is part of the Director General's management support.

Do You Have the Competence Profile We Need?

Requirements

  • Academic education, such as a Master of Science, in social sciences, economics, or another area deemed relevant by the employer
  • Solid experience in leading strategic development, change management, or business development
  • Good understanding of the interplay between technology development, innovation, and governance
  • Experience working at the interface between different competencies and business areas
  • Very good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written

We are looking for someone who is curious and development-oriented, driven by contributing to renewal and learning in the organization. In your role, you work both analytically and coachingly in meetings with colleagues, structuring and guiding in innovation-related questions and processes, adapted to local needs. You are proactive and accustomed to moving between different time perspectives. With good collaboration skills, you build trusting relationships and contribute to a positive work climate.

Meritorious

  • Experience working in the public sector or government agency
  • Experience in method development within innovation or business development
  • Experience in collaboration within the defence or security sector

The position is a permanent employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
