Department of Culture and Aesthetics is looking for substitutes in Intellectual History

The Department of Culture and Aesthetics is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Humanities, with approximately 120 employees and around 2,000 students each academic year.

The subjects offered at the department include: intellectual history, art history, cultural heritage studies, curating, literary studies, musicology, and theater studies. Teaching and research are conducted in all subjects.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibilities consist of teaching at the undergraduate level. We are looking for one or more substitutes. The substitutes we seek should primarily be able to lecture and lead seminars, as well as supervise and examine theses. Some teaching may take place in the evening. Teaching is mainly conducted in Swedish, but instruction in English may also occur. Teaching primarily takes place on campus but may also be conducted online. Additionally, the substitute is expected to participate in the faculty's collective work to develop the subject's teaching thematically and pedagogically.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for employment is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree in intellectual history or equivalent. The applicant must have demonstrated pedagogical skills and the ability to teach in Swedish and English. The applicant should also have good collaborative skills, as well as the ability and suitability to perform the tasks well.

Assessment Criteria

We are looking for someone who has ambitions to develop as a teacher, researcher, and colleague at the department.

Applications should include a summary of scientific merits with a description of the applicant's research profile (1-2 pages), a pedagogical self-reflection (1-2 pages), and a certificate from the program director or equivalent that confirms teaching and pedagogical skills.

In the assessment of applicants, great importance will be placed on pedagogical skills. Documentation of previous teaching experience in intellectual history or equivalent is required. Completed courses in higher education pedagogy, good course evaluations, and references are meritorious. It is also important to have the ability to collaborate well with colleagues.

For the assessment of scientific skills, the applicant must submit a written account of their research profile and activities as a researcher with their application.

Demonstrated administrative skills, such as developing new courses and/or course responsibility, will also be considered an asset for the applicant.

About the Position

The position encompasses 50-100% and is temporary for a period of 3-6 months, starting in August 2026 or by agreement. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Therefore, please indicate your salary expectations.
