Lecturer in Media Technology

Södertörn University is an institution in Stockholm that educates, researches, and collaborates for sustainable societal development. Approximately 14,000 students study here in around 80 programs and over 300 courses. Media Technology is an interdisciplinary subject at the Department of Natural Sciences, Environment, and Technology. The subject has been present at Södertörn University since 2001 and is broadly focused on the design, construction, and analysis of digital media. Media Technology is the university's second largest educational subject and constitutes a dynamic and creative environment for both research and education. Approximately 15 lecturers work in the department, evenly distributed between women and men. The subject organizes courses within several different programs at the university and is the main subject in three of these: the bachelor's programs in IT, Media, and Design; the Game Program; and the international master's program “User Experience and Interactive Media Design”.

Research within the subject is multidisciplinary, combining technology and design exploration with social science and humanities perspectives. Our research is primarily conducted within three areas where we collaborate around the following themes: participatory and norm-critical design; design and creative practices; games and storytelling; media technology and learning.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities consist of teaching at the undergraduate level within the programs IT, Media, and Design, as well as the Game Program. Other teaching moments and assignments may also occur. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English.

The position may involve collaboration within the university and with the surrounding community. Administrative tasks may also be included, such as program responsibility and trust assignments.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a lecturer in media technology, one must have a university degree in media technology or other education deemed relevant, or possess equivalent competence, demonstrated pedagogical skills, and have completed higher education pedagogical training of at least 7.5 higher education credits or have equivalent competence. Applicants lacking higher education pedagogical training must complete such training within 12 months of the start of employment. Eligibility also includes professional skills that are significant for the subject matter and job responsibilities of the position. The applicant must also possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the position well and to represent the university in a way that benefits the organization. Furthermore, the applicant must be proficient in teaching in both Swedish and English.

Pedagogical skills are demonstrated through solid and current knowledge relevant to the position, a self-reflective approach to student learning and experiences, as well as the own teaching role, and through documented and well-rated experience in planning, implementing, and developing education. Pedagogical experience can be obtained through work in higher education or other educational activities.

The Position

The position is permanent at 80-100% with a start date of May 1, 2026, or by agreement. A six-month probationary period may apply.
