About the Position

You will be placed and work in two of our three infection wards, Infection 2 (I54) and Infection 3 (I62). In ward I62, patients with complicated infections such as sepsis, TB, respiratory infections, and infections of the central nervous system, skeleton, skin, and soft tissues are cared for. The ward is also responsible for receiving patients with suspected highly contagious diseases such as Ebola. The unit also conducts a KUA operation with nursing students in terms 3 and 5.

Ward I54 is a collaborative unit with the Addiction Centre, and together with a doctor and nurse from the Addiction Centre, we care for patients with infectious diseases and addiction issues. Patients in the ward have a planning nurse and doctor who are overall responsible for care and develop a treatment plan based on the patient's nursing and medical needs. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers are also connected to both wards and are contacted as needed.

We see that in your role you will contribute to increased knowledge about medications by educating and collaborating with nurses and doctors, as well as nursing students. We work cross-professionally and strive for good cooperation between all professions in our unit.

Examples of Tasks Included in the Role:

  • Daily responsibility for medication management by distributing and preparing medications in agreement with the patient-responsible nurse in the team.
  • Daily review of patients' medication lists to detect any discrepancies.
  • Responsible for the medication room, including orders, cleaning routines, inventory, discrepancy management, and creating safe routines.
  • Assist nurses in retrieving and borrowing missing medications from shared medication dispensers or other wards.
  • Continuously educate staff and nursing students in medications and medication management.
  • Be the contact person between the ward and the pharmacy.
  • Assist with medication reviews during discharge.
  • Responsible for continuous oversight/supervision of all routines, such as work routines, guidelines, risk assessments, updating dilution schedules, checklists, form management, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Licensed pharmacist or licensed pharmacy technician with compounding competence.

Desirable:

Master's degree in clinical pharmacy. Previous experience working in inpatient or outpatient care.
