About the Unit
The Fourth Naval Warfare Flotilla is a task force in the Swedish Navy. The flotilla has the capability to control maritime areas, shipping routes, and maritime traffic, conduct operations against surface, air, and underwater targets, as well as clear mines in harbor areas, coastal waters, and open sea. Operations are conducted nationally and internationally. The Swedish Armed Forces have a strong value base built on openness, results, and responsibility.
Job Responsibilities
As a ship's nurse in the Swedish Armed Forces, you hold the highest medical competence on board. This means that you will take care of the sick and injured and perform triage during larger outbreaks of illness/injury on your own ship or at a unit that your ship has been ordered to support. You will participate in work at the scene of an incident as well as be able to accompany patients during medical evacuations. As a nurse on the ship, you also have the task of working preventively, early intervention to curb outbreaks of illness, and alleviating and managing minor ailments directly on board. This allows the ship to maintain a high personnel combat value, which positively contributes to the resolution of the mission. A large part of the work involves educating and developing the medical skills of other crew members. You are expected to participate in other ship duties, and a strong focus will be on integrating you as a crew member. The position includes physical training during working hours.
Qualifications
- Licensed nurse with a specialization in emergency care, anesthesia, or ambulance
- At least two years of professional experience in your specialty
- You must be fully healthy and meet the Swedish Armed Forces' physical basic requirements including swimming 400 m with rescue
- Driver's license B

Meritorious
- Military basic training equivalent to conscription, GSU/GMU, or other Swedish military training
- Experience in pre-hospital emergency care
- Experience serving at sea
- Previous military service abroad in a clinical position
- Civilian or military courses in emergency care
- Training in or experience of training others
Other
As a part-time employee in the Swedish Armed Forces, you retain your civilian employer as your main employer but serve with us periodically. Each year, a service plan is made for the year, total service time is about 1-2 months/year. You have the right to leave for this. If you lack a military background, you will need to complete Basic Soldier Training (GSU). Approved GSU is required for employment. Upon employment, an introductory training will be conducted. The length and content of the training will be adapted according to previous military knowledge and experience. Your place of residence does not limit your ability to serve.

Type of Employment:
Permanent employment with periodic service according to the Officers' Ordinance 20§. A six-month probationary period applies.

Selection:
Interviews and fitness tests will be conducted in weeks 22-25 and will take a full day. NOTE! Swimming test 400 m and rescue will be conducted independently in a swimming pool at your home location, after which a certificate must be brought to the selection examination. A test will also be conducted by the Duty and Testing Authority regardless of whether you have a military background or not.
