Environmental Officer at the Swedish Armed Forces

The Swedish Armed Forces exists to protect Sweden. Our mission requires a wide range of operations. As an employee with us, you will become an important part of Sweden's defense. Imagine being able to go to work and contribute to a safer future? We are growing and are now looking for an Environmental Officer to help develop environmental work within the Swedish Armed Forces.

You will work with environmental issues within the Älvsborg Amphibious Regiment (Amf 4) and the Gothenburg Garrison. You will also be involved in various environmental issues within the Navy and the Swedish Armed Forces.

Recruiting Unit/Department/Section Name

Amf 4 Regimental Staff, G5

Main Responsibilities

The breadth of growth within the Gothenburg Garrison is reflected in our environmental work, which requires a broad environmental competence based on the conditions and needs of the operations. The tasks require close collaboration with colleagues within the Gothenburg Garrison as well as with external authorities and stakeholders.

The position will particularly focus on being a support function related to projects within the development and establishment of the garrison's physical planning, properties, and infrastructure. Within this area, issues such as stormwater management, contaminated land, and the application of health protection regulations under the Environmental Code are predominant.

Work within the environmental field in the Swedish Armed Forces is complex, and good knowledge of environmental legislation is necessary. The position encompasses several areas such as noise, nature conservation issues, water activities, chemical products, waste, and health protection. The role involves developing routines, self-monitoring, preparing environmental matters, analyses, and consultation responses. Together with the existing environmental officer, you will work to coordinate and develop systematic environmental work.

A large part of the work is carried out in an office environment, but support to operations in field environments may occur in the position.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Academic degree of at least 180 higher education credits with a focus on environmental science, sustainable development, urban planning, or another area within the environmental field that the employer deems equivalent

  • Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
  • Driver's license for manual transmission.

Meritorious

  • Previous experience from the Swedish Armed Forces that the employer deems relevant
  • Previous relevant work experience within the environmental field from an operational perspective

Personal Attributes

The overarching perspective for the operations always stems from the Swedish Armed Forces' main task; to defend Sweden against armed attack. Employment in the Swedish Armed Forces requires an understanding of the main task and the ability to implement and represent this in daily work.

The position requires the ability to plan and drive tasks independently as well as together with others under your own responsibility. The tasks largely involve the need for collaboration both internally and externally, and you therefore need to be able to represent the authority, Amf 4, and the environmental function in various contexts. Good social competence and a pronounced communication ability are necessary traits. The work requires a high degree of security awareness, accuracy, and personal responsibility.

In the recruitment process, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
