JOB DESCRIPTION
Do you want to help change the reading development for an entire municipality? Are you passionate about systematic, evidence-based teaching and early interventions? Then you might be the one we are looking for!
The municipality of Höganäs is now implementing a long-term investment in reading development and is establishing a common structure for systematic phonics methodology and RTI (Response to Intervention). As a reading educator in early reading instruction, you will work closely with teachers to train them in evidence-based methods with a clear mission to model and develop good reading instruction directly in the classrooms. The mission aims to ensure that more students crack the reading code early and receive a solid foundation for continued learning.
The role is teaching-oriented and involves practically supporting teachers, teams, and schools in developing accurate, equitable, and research-based reading instruction from preschool to grade 3 in line with the Science of Reading.
The assignment includes:
- Practically working with methodological support and modeling.
- Modeling teaching and demonstrating how systematic phonics methodology is implemented in practice.
- Showing how phonological awareness, decoding, reading fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension can be built in a clear progression.
- Supporting teachers in developing lesson plans, teaching materials, and structured routines based on evidence.
Collegial Development and Guidance
- Guide teams in collegial learning related to reading instruction.
- Observe teaching and provide concrete, constructive, and developmental feedback focusing on the quality of instruction and student learning.
- Contribute to a shared understanding of teaching principles, progression, and equity in early reading.
RTI and Data-Driven Development Work
- Support schools in using and analyzing screening data (e.g., LegiLexi) to strengthen instruction at the group and school level.
- Identify patterns in results and suggest instructional adjustments based on the analysis.
- Participate in planning and follow-up of targeted instructional interventions within RTI levels 1 and 2.
Collaboration, Systematic Approach, and a Cohesive Structure
- Collaborate with development leaders, school leaders, and speech therapists.
- Strengthen the connection between instruction, support measures, and follow-up.
- Educate and develop the skills of staff in preschools, after-school programs, and schools with a focus on teaching-oriented and method-focused elements.
QUALIFICATIONS
You need:
- Swedish teaching certification.
- Documented competence in early reading instruction, phonological awareness, and systematic phonics methodology.
- Experience in teaching grades F-3 or special education work related to early reading.
- Ability to model teaching and lead collegial learning.
- Good analytical skills and confidence in working data-driven based on screening and progression.
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience with the RTI model or other structured support models.
- Special education training focused on language, writing, and reading development.
- Experience in mentoring teachers or working in school development projects.
As a person, you are:
- Unpretentious, clear, and confident in the leadership role among colleagues.
- Relationship-building and communicative – you build trust in the classroom and in teams.
- Structured, persistent, and motivated by following up on results.
- Curious and engaged in current research on reading and language development.
OTHER
We offer you:
- A unique assignment where you can help change teaching and make a difference for children throughout the municipality.
- The opportunity to work both operationally and at the system level in an engaged team.
- To collaboratively shape working methods and approaches in a completely new role with the organization.
The position entails a permanent employment in Höganäs municipality within your profession, e.g., teacher or special educator. The employment begins with the assignment as a reading educator in a two-year project that may be extended. You will be based at the education office.
Welcome with your application and become part of Höganäs municipality's initiative to give all students the best possible start in their reading development!
