Job Responsibilities

As a camp leader at Akka's campgrounds, you will be responsible for children aged 9–13 years and plan and lead activities for this group. Our profile is clearly focused on outdoor life and outdoor education. Participants live in tents throughout their stay, and most of the activities take place outdoors.

Camp means round-the-clock activities for both participants and leaders. The children sleep in tents on the premises, while the staff lives in nearby houses. Once per period, you will have an overnight duty, which means you will sleep in a tent to be close to the children during the night. Therefore, you need to feel comfortable being away from home for at least six weeks.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating a safe and structured daily routine, leading activities, and being a present adult who guides the children in their development and decisions.

Who are we looking for?

A large part of the role involves meeting the children's needs and being a stable support in their daily lives. To succeed in this role, you need to be confident in yourself and your leadership, able to set clear boundaries while building good relationships. You should feel comfortable discussing life issues and serve as a role model.

The work has many similarities to the school environment, where structure and boundary-setting are combined with relationship-building to create a safe climate.

Experience

Applicants should have a strong interest in outdoor life or experience in outdoor education, as most of the activities take place outdoors. During the summer, we conduct hikes, raft building, climbing, paddling, swimming, and cooking over an open fire. We also offer creative activities such as theater, dance, and singing. Disco, football tournaments, and themed days are also part of the program.

Experience working with children in middle school age is an advantage, as is experience from primary school or leisure activities.

Employment Conditions

The position is a full-time job. You must be able to attend our training days on-site at the campground in Värmland from April 30 to May 3, and June 6 to 11. During the summer, you need to be able to work and thus be away from home for at least six weeks from June 12 to August 16.
