Special Teacher with a Focus on Intellectual Disabilities
Do you want to work in an intrapreneurship where students have up to 10 years to develop knowledge and values in a safe environment? Then Almby School is the workplace for you, come and enrich our wonderful team with your joy and competence!
About the Position
We are looking for a special teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities to join us at Almby School. In this role, you will work at our adapted primary school, primarily focusing on subject areas for grades 1-9. The school also has a subject focus for grades 4-9. Currently, there are 6 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in the class that this position primarily targets.
You will be part of a team with 4 other teachers and a teacher in the after-school program. In this role, you will work together with the rest of the team to create a good pedagogical environment with the goal that all students reach their goals, feel good, and develop based on their conditions. You will work in an environment where practical and theoretical elements are combined based on the students' needs, where digital tools such as iPads and computers are a natural part. Since there are students with intellectual disabilities and several other diagnoses, both within NPF and medical, it is important to work for a clear structure and to make the learning environment accessible in the best way. You will actively work with promoting and preventive safety work.
In each class, there are several teaching assistants who support in teaching and the students' other needs; in this role, you will be a qualified conversation partner in guiding the teaching assistants in the team. Good collaboration with guardians and external contacts is important. You will work with assessments and collaborate with special educators and others in the student health team regarding adaptations and any action plans. In Örebro municipality, there is an expanded network with teachers from other adapted primary schools that you can collaborate with.
Examples of Tasks:
- plan, implement, and evaluate teaching
- provide mentorship to students and lead the work for the team
- lead/participate in meetings with guardians and other internal and external contacts
- collaborate with other staff within the unit and in the student health team at the school for a holistic view of the work at our school
About the Workplace
Intraprenad Almby School is a school for all students regardless of background, conditions, and needs. We want to be a role model for a more integrated Örebro, where different backgrounds enrich students and where all students are the responsibility of all adults. The school has a service function with maintenance, administration, IT, library, and cleaning that works to create the best conditions so that other staff can provide students with the best education possible. We focus on solid collegial learning and strong student health. We are a school with a strong focus on our two main missions – knowledge and values. We want our students to leave Almby School with good self-esteem, empathetic ability, and well-prepared for life.
In this role, you will belong to one of four units with us. The unit includes three classes with a subject focus, including the after-school program. Currently, there are a total of 20 students and about the same amount of staff. Collaboration also exists with the adapted primary school's subject for grades 4-9, which is part of the 7-9 unit. The other units at the school are F-3, 4-6, and 7-9, each led by an assistant principal. The school is ultimately led by a principal. The school has a large student health team with several special educators, special teachers, school nurses, and counselors, led by two team leaders.
