As a business expert, you play an important role and handle interesting issues, both nationally and internationally. You are a support for the entire Swedish Customs in your area of expertise.

The Revenue Department is responsible for, among other things, permits, post-controls, and revenue monitoring and is one of the four operational departments of the Swedish Customs. The department is divided into the four units South, West, East, and North.

About the position

The area of expertise Export includes a wide range of questions related to the export procedure and the export of goods to a country or area outside the European Union's customs territory.

As a business expert, you participate in meetings in Brussels and advocate for Swedish interests in the forums you attend. You support the operations regarding regulatory interpretation and continuously respond to inquiries. You take the initiative to develop and formulate materials for governing and supporting documents. You conduct analyses within the area of expertise and contribute your expertise to various projects and development work. You are expected to actively participate in change and improvement work. Contributing to regulatory development is another important task.

As a business expert, you have in-depth knowledge of the area of expertise and provide a holistic view within your area of responsibility. This includes monitoring and identifying articles in current and upcoming legislation that may affect the area of expertise. It is important for you, as a business expert, to be observant early in the process about how various proposals may impact Sweden and the Swedish Customs and to contribute to shaping the proposals in a way that is suitable for Sweden and the Swedish Customs.

The position also involves communicating internally and externally within the area of expertise and being engaged in training initiatives, sometimes as a teacher but also leading the area of expertise's contact group. The position includes work with the intranet, the Swedish Customs website, and various types of guidance. Environmental monitoring and collaboration with other authorities and organizations are also part of the role, as well as creating materials for and responding to referrals and opinions.

The position entails significant personal responsibility; you must have the ability to take your own initiatives and drive the work forward. You are expected to be willing to assist other business experts within the Swedish Customs when needed and be helpful in other areas of expertise. You actively share your knowledge.

In the role of business expert, it is important that you are professional, collaborative, and have a holistic view within your area of expertise and across process and departmental boundaries, as well as being able to represent Sweden and the Swedish Customs internationally.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree and 3 years of relevant work experience within the Swedish Customs (or other work experience that we assess as equivalent) alternatively, 8 years of relevant work experience within the Swedish Customs (or other work experience that we assess as equivalent)
  • In-depth knowledge of the area of expertise export
  • Work experience in compiling, analyzing, and presenting information
  • Experience in investigative work and regulatory interpretations
  • Experience in referral and legislative work
  • Very good collaboration skills
  • Excellent ability to express yourself in spoken and written Swedish and English
  • Good IT skills, especially in the Office suite (Word, Excel, PP, etc.)
  • Swedish driving license, class B for passenger cars

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Good knowledge of reporting in various customs procedures
  • Experience in developing methods and working practices
  • Experience in international work
  • Experience in giving presentations and acting as a teacher

Personal qualities

As a person, you are both results-oriented and thoughtful, with a knack for problem-solving and analytical thinking. You work independently, strive for and take your own initiatives for continuous improvements, and are a knowledge resource for others. You are a good communicator with pedagogical ability in both speech and writing. You are interested in global issues and how they affect our operations. It is important that you are comfortable in an expert role, which may involve presenting clear proposals with recommendations for the Swedish Customs' stance on an issue.

Since the work requires many contacts and dialogue with colleagues and other parts of the organization, we want you to be a good listener, responsive, and able to collaborate easily with your surroundings. The work as a business expert involves periods of high workload, and you need to have the ability to prioritize and focus on the right things. You are used to handling large amounts of text and can quickly identify the essence of the text. You are also good at working to set deadlines.

You will belong to the revenue unit South, but you can be placed at any of the Swedish Customs offices in Gothenburg, Malmö, Norrköping, Stockholm, or Sundsvall.

The employment is a permanent position, with a 6-month probationary period. Individual salary setting applies.

To be considered for employment at the Swedish Customs, you must meet high standards regarding security and confidentiality awareness, suitability, and compliance with applicable laws. This means that you uphold democratic values and the state value base that applies to the Swedish Customs' operations. Before a hiring decision is made, you will undergo a drug test. A security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted before employment, as the position is classified in a security class. The Swedish Customs is a total defense authority, and upon employment, you may be assigned to the Swedish Customs in case of war.
