Midwife with a Focus on Continuity

Are you a midwife curious about working with continuity? Do you enjoy working in a team and utilizing all your midwifery knowledge? Now there is an opportunity to be a midwife from pregnancy to postnatal care.

Warm welcome to submit your application!

You will be offered

  • a job in an organization with extensive experience in continuity care
  • a free and varied job where each midwife independently plans their work in collaboration with colleagues from other teams
  • the opportunity to follow the patient through the entire care chain
  • individually tailored introduction, continuous supervision, and extensive professional development.

Of course, you will also benefit from the general benefits that Karolinska University Hospital offers you.

About the position

At the maternity ward in Huddinge, we work daily with a diversity of patient groups in an organization characterized by cultural variation and international presence. Here we meet colleagues and families from all over the world. Each year, approximately 3,500 babies are born with us, of which about 500 within the Min Barnmorska program.

Our operations encompass both highly specialized obstetric care and planned home births. Research and development are a natural part of our clinical everyday life, and we have several doctoral midwives in the organization, creating a stimulating and knowledge-driven work environment.

You will be employed at the maternity ward in Huddinge and work according to a schedule, with some on-call duties. Weekend and night work are included. You will be part of a team consisting of three other midwives and be responsible for about 40 pregnant women per year.

Together, you will follow families through the entire care chain – from pregnancy checks and parental education to support conversations, home visits before and after birth, and participation in births at the maternity ward in Huddinge or at home. The work is independent, varied, and allows for great continuity and relationship-building. You plan your work independently while receiving close support from colleagues within and outside your own team.

About Min Barnmorska

Within Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge, we have built a well-functioning continuity model – Min Barnmorska – for nearly seven years. Here, you as a midwife are offered unique opportunities to provide cohesive care and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.

You work in teams and follow the same families from admission to postnatal check. This allows you to utilize the full breadth of midwifery competence and create secure relationships over time. Internationally, this model is referred to as Caseload Midwifery and is a scientifically well-evaluated form of care with good medical and psychological outcomes.

The service is aimed at pregnant women with fear of childbirth or other vulnerabilities related to childbirth. We currently have three midwifery clinics within BMM Södra: Älvsjö, Farsta, and Skärholmen. Maternity care is conducted according to basic programs and regional guidelines.

Each team is responsible for pregnancy care, childbirth care, and postnatal care for their families. The work takes place in clinics, at the home of the pregnant woman and family, and at the maternity ward in Huddinge during birth. We also assist women who meet the criteria for home birth. The service has access to a car and all necessary medical equipment for home births, checks in the latent phase, and planned home births.

We are looking for someone who

  • has a holistic view of pregnancy and childbirth with a supportive approach and a particular interest in people's diverse needs during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care
  • is flexible, takes initiative, and can steer your work according to the needs of the organization
  • collaborates well and enjoys working in a team.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability for the position.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Swedish license as a midwife
  • At least three years of professional experience as a midwife

Desirable:

  • Driving license B
  • Experience from both midwifery clinics and childbirth.
