In the city center, there is Luleå Gymnasieby; a campus area that gathers most municipal upper secondary education programs with nearly 2300 students. The students in Luleå Gymnasieby should be given the conditions for lifelong learning by focusing on knowledge, participation, responsibility, and leadership so that they are prepared for working life and as citizens in society. The contacts with the business community are many, and in the local steering groups, the business community collaborates with the upper secondary school to create good conditions for the students to be well prepared for the time after their upper secondary education.

In the upper secondary school, there are also specialized programs in mathematics, the English-speaking Luleå Gymnasieskola International programme with the IB Diploma Programme, as well as nationally approved sports education and national basketball gymnasium.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will have the primary responsibility for teaching vocational subjects, supported by other teachers in the program. The education should develop the students' knowledge and skills in construction and civil engineering, for example in new production, renovation, and refurbishment. Since construction and civil engineering work affects society's infrastructure and the environments we inhabit, the education should provide knowledge of rational, safe, and environmentally sustainable building practices. The education should also provide knowledge of the various professions and work processes in the industry, as well as entrepreneurship and business, which provides a good foundation for collaboration in the workplace and with clients.

The job also includes a mentoring assignment in which you will be a mentor for about half of the students in a grade. This means that you keep yourself informed about your students' entire school journey and continuously communicate with them about it. If necessary, you should also take the initiative for other measures to support the students. You will have contact with guardians, both in development talks and, if necessary, in other contexts. In your role, you will have support from student health (school nurse, counselor, and special educator), study and career counselors, and the principal.

You will be part of a program team, which includes other vocational teachers and teachers in common subjects. You will also, together with teachers from other vocational programs, be part of a subject network led by our lead teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are primarily looking for someone who has a teaching license and is qualified to teach construction subjects and painting in the construction and civil engineering program. If you are not a licensed teacher in the subject, you need to have several years of current work experience in house construction and painting. A valid B driver's license is required.

It is an advantage if you have experience from a supervisory role, have experience in documentation, and if you are certified in Hot Work, scaffolding, fall protection, or have other relevant certifications for the position.

To succeed as a teacher, you need to be structured and skilled at planning, adapting, implementing, and evaluating teaching based on the needs of the group and individuals, as well as meeting deadlines. Since you will collaborate with both colleagues and students as well as companies in the construction industry, a key to success is that you are good at creating and maintaining good relationships and that you have good collaboration skills. In your teaching role, you are a confident leader with the ability to create an open climate where you lead, drive, and motivate your students, as well as the ability to meet and handle students with different needs.
