About the Municipality

Hedenskolan is a F–6 school with approximately 500 students and around 100 staff members. The adapted primary school is a small, staff-intensive, and resource-rich part of the operation with about 15 students distributed in small teaching groups. Here, we work closely together and have good access to student assistants and support from student health services. The school is centrally located with proximity to sports facilities and other municipal operations.

We have been working systematically for a long time with collegial learning and professional development. We have driven process leaders, PAX and IBIS instructors, as well as IT pedagogues. The adapted primary school is constantly working on forward-looking quality work, which means that you who start with us will have the opportunity to shape and strengthen the operation in close collaboration with school management and colleagues.

Your Responsibilities

As a special teacher in the adapted primary school, you are responsible for teaching that is based on each student's individual conditions and needs. You plan, implement, and follow up on the teaching with the student's learning and development at the center. Teaching time varies between 15–18 hours per week, which provides good opportunities for planning, collaboration, and pedagogical development. You do not need to teach all subjects as we have subject teachers in, for example, practical-aesthetic subjects.

Your assignment includes leading and coordinating the work together with student assistants and maintaining regular contact with guardians. The work is characterized by a low-affect approach, clear structure, and a solution-focused attitude. You play an important role in creating a safe, meaningful, and stimulating learning environment where each student is given the opportunity to develop as far as possible based on their conditions.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are a certified special teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities. We also welcome those who are at the end of their education or have extensive experience working with the target group. The most important thing is that you have the right commitment and willingness to develop in the assignment.

You are relationship-building and comfortable collaborating with students, guardians, and colleagues. You thrive in a role where you both teach and lead other adults in the pedagogical work. Furthermore, you are solution-oriented, structured, and have the ability to adapt teaching to students' varying needs. Experience working with students with NPF is an advantage but not a requirement.

Knowledge of Sami, Meänkieli, or Finnish is an advantage as Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for these minority languages.
