About the Job

Do you want to contribute to the development of next-generation methods to ensure good fish welfare and high food quality?

The work is conducted in an international research environment with a core team of 5–6 researchers based in Gothenburg and several international partners. The group is established in the field of fish physiology and welfare, conducting research with a clear connection to sustainable food production and societal relevance.

The position is project-based, led by the principal investigator of the project. At the same time, you are expected to work independently and take responsibility for leading defined work packages within the project. This includes planning, conducting, and following up on experimental studies, as well as coordinating activities related to these parts. You will play a central role in the scientific and technical implementation of the project and actively contribute to the development of new methodological and technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct experimental studies on fish
  • Perform and analyze electrophysiological measurements (EEG and ECG)
  • Lead work packages and coordinate relevant activities
  • Collaborate with international research and industry partners
  • Analyze and compile data
  • Draft scientific articles and reports in English
  • Present results to both academic and external audiences
  • Contribute to the development and testing of technical solutions

The work involves animal testing and practical handling of fish.

Your Background

We are looking for a committed and technically skilled researcher for a multidisciplinary research project focusing on quantifying physiological stress indicators in fish and linking these to meat quality at slaughter. The project combines advanced electrophysiological methods, including electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocardiography (ECG), with technology development and close collaboration with industry.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biology with a focus on fish physiology or a related field
  • Documented experience in electrophysiological measurements on fish
  • Formal and practical training in handling and euthanizing fish
  • Experience with laboratory work and advanced technical equipment
  • Excellent English skills, both spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

Swedish is a requirement as the research is communicated to industry and authorities, and parts of any teaching may be conducted in Swedish.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability. You are analytical, structured, and can work both independently and in a team.
