Strategist for Region Gotland

In Region Gotland, you can develop and grow, both as an individual and together with others. When you work with us, you contribute to making Gotland an even better place for people in all walks of life. We make each other better.

Coordination and Financing

The Department for Regional Development is responsible for Gotland's strategic planning, management, governance, and follow-up.

We work towards socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable development. The department is located within the regional council administration and consists of five units. The Coordination and Financing Unit drives the work of developing and following up the regional development strategy, managing development projects, the sustainability program, and the partnership with Uppsala University. The position is expected to work broadly across the entire department.

As an employee of Region Gotland, you are important in contributing to the region's development in the direction decided by the politicians. It is essential to have a holistic view and understand how the region's various activities are interconnected and collaborate. The region's shared values of trust, care, and participation guide our work and permeate the services our employees deliver to users and customers.

We are now looking for a strategist who wants to help change, improve, and develop the place Gotland!

Your Responsibilities

As a strategist, you will work on analyzing the environment, the current situation, and development needs in relation to the decided goals. The work includes driving and implementing strategic development initiatives, as well as continuously following up and evaluating the work, thereby creating learning and further development within the area of responsibility.

The position also includes preparing decision matters based on national or regional/municipal regulations and handling motions, citizen proposals, and similar, as well as assisting with materials for elected representatives in connection with, for example, interpellation responses.

As an expert, you will present your matters to the regional council and disseminate knowledge within your area of responsibility. In this assignment, you are expected to navigate and collaborate across boundaries with colleagues, units, departments, administrations, and external actors at local, regional, national, and to some extent international levels.

One of your tasks will be to lead a project aimed at increasing knowledge about the specific challenges faced by an island region. The assignment involves ensuring coordination of ongoing efforts to avoid duplication of work and increase efficiency. Inventory additional information needs and develop strategic materials needed to advance the project towards its goals. Within the framework of the project, knowledge about the island situation, tailored to different target groups at regional, national, and EU levels, should also be disseminated. The project should also contribute to relevant investigations and will have access to Region Gotland's membership in networks and international collaborations to both gather and disseminate knowledge.

Who Are You?

You have a relevant academic degree and experience working with strategic development issues in community development. A prerequisite for succeeding in this assignment is that you have good knowledge of Gotland and an understanding of how territorial conditions create unique challenges. It is advantageous to have worked at a strategic and/or leadership level in a politically governed organization at the municipal or regional level. We would also like you to have completed formal project management training.

As a person, you need to be analytical, strategic, and organized. You have the ability to create and maintain a good structure in a changing environment and can work independently. At the same time, relationship-building and good collaboration skills are crucial for success in the assignment, and we are looking for a person who can communicate confidently across broad contact areas. You need to have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.
