Case Officer in Urban Planning and Cultural Heritage
The County Administrative Board works on behalf of the government to ensure that national goals are implemented in the region. Our broad operations encompass environmental, nature, cultural heritage, business, community planning, rural, preparedness, and total defense issues. In dialogue with other actors, we coordinate various interests and promote sustainable development in Gotland.
We have over 150 employees, and our head is Governor Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.
Description
Do you want to contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage in societal development? We are now looking for a case officer with a focus on urban planning and cultural heritage.
This is a unique opportunity for you who are engaged in these issues. With us, you will play an important role in contributing to long-term and sustainable development in the region. The breadth of our operations and our assignments provide an exciting and developing environment. You will have a diverse and qualified job at a developing authority. You will belong to the Unit for Community Development, where about twenty employees work in areas such as cultural heritage, urban planning, energy and climate, and social sustainability.
Responsibilities
Your key role will be to bridge issues related to urban planning and cultural heritage. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating the World Heritage perspective into urban planning and the County Administrative Board's overall assignments according to the Planning and Building Act, the Cultural Heritage Act, and Sweden's commitments under UNESCO's World Heritage Convention. The role also involves case handling, strategic work, and knowledge dissemination.
Your tasks will include:
- being responsible for the County Administrative Board's assignments related to World Heritage work
- representing, collaborating, and participating in regional, national, and international networks related to World Heritage and cultural heritage
- handling cases within urban planning and cultural heritage and participating in the development of planning materials
- overseeing and revising national interests for cultural heritage conservation
- contributing to other tasks within the authority such as case handling in preparedness and energy issues
The assignment includes both strategic and operational tasks.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with good collaboration skills who enjoys and can work both independently and in a team, valuing teamwork highly. You are driven and structured in your work. You have a humble attitude towards others, are attentive, and service-oriented. You possess good and clear communication skills and express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. You have the ability to prioritize during periods of high tempo and can manage and deliver results. You are flexible and can handle changes within the organization and governance. You are proactive and see opportunities for improvements and development of work methods in your tasks. We place great importance on personal suitability.
To apply for this position, you should have:
- a degree at least at the bachelor's level, preferably a master's degree focused on urban planning or cultural heritage. For example, academic education in cultural heritage conservation, cultural heritage, archaeology, building conservation, landscape architecture, physical planning, urban planning, cultural geography, or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent
- work experience in integrating the cultural heritage perspective into planning and decision-making processes
- good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act (PBL) and the Environmental Code, as well as basic knowledge of the Cultural Heritage Act
- a valid driver's license for passenger cars
It is an advantage if you have:
- government experience in working with cultural heritage and community planning issues
- experience in leading projects within urban planning, cultural heritage, or sustainable development
- experience working with World Heritage, for example, through management, follow-up, or work related to management plans
- experience working with GIS
Conditions
The position is a permanent position with a start date to be agreed upon. A six-month probationary period applies.
The employment is placed in a security class. A background check will be conducted in case of a potential employment. The position requires you to be a Swedish citizen.
The County Administrative Board has a coordinating responsibility within both crisis preparedness and total defense in the region. This means that as an employee, you may be part of the crisis management organization and may be assigned to military service.
