We are looking for a librarian who wants to create and establish a program in good collaboration with teachers and the school's other staff.
Responsibilities
In the role of librarian, you are responsible for the school library room and work to ensure that the school library becomes a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Participating in mapping students' reading abilities and developing strategies to increase students' knowledge and interest in reading.
- Working to strengthen students' reading engagement and reading skills through reading-promoting and language-developing methods and activities, both independently and in collaboration with school staff.
- Being involved in developing the school's approach to multilingualism and Swedish as a second language.
- Developing forms for and enhancing work to strengthen students' media and information literacy and digital competence.
- Planning and conducting teaching and guiding students both in the library and in classrooms.

- Managing media planning and purchases, circulation, and book handling.
- Conducting book discussions and working in classes as well as library breaks for students at the school.
Together with school librarians from other primary schools in the city, you will be part of the School Administration's librarian network for collegial learning. You are expected to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at developing school library operations.
Gothenburg City Library Plan 2024-2028
We work based on Gothenburg City's library plan 2024-2028 with the goal that the school library should have a clear pedagogical function whose main task is to collaborate with educators to promote students' reading and media and information literacy and create a school library for all. The focus of the school library's activities is to increase students' goal fulfillment, well-being, and identity creation by integrating the school library into teaching.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a university degree in library and information science or equivalent higher education that the employer deems relevant. You have high digital competence relevant to the tasks and a strong interest in children's and youth literature. It is particularly meritorious if you have knowledge and experience in strengthening the Swedish language with multilingual students.
To fit in this role, you need to have a strong commitment to children and young people's learning. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into effective school library practice.
We are looking for someone with a good ability to work collaboratively and build good relationships with both students and colleagues. You contribute to a good working environment for colleagues and students. You create conditions for learning to take place and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You also take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether you work alone or with others. You contribute new ideas and perspectives and often see more than one possible solution in different situations.
