Licensed Psychologist at Viskan Prison
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
Viskan Prison is a closed facility that began receiving inmates in March 2025. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. Inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or industrial production. Viskan Prison is easiest to reach by car, and staff parking is available.
As a psychologist within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you make a real difference – every day. Here, you combine qualified treatment work with a clear societal mission, in a role where your expertise contributes to real change.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a psychologist at Viskan Prison, you will work with qualified psychological treatment in a socially important operation. The assignment includes conducting clinical assessments, neuropsychiatric investigations, and individually tailored treatment interventions based on clients' needs. You will encounter a wide range of complex issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, personality disorders, and neuropsychiatric disabilities, making the work varied, developing, and meaningful.
You will collaborate closely with nurses, doctors, and psychiatrists, as well as other staff at the prison, to enhance the ability to meet clients' psychological needs and prevent negative effects of incarceration. An important part of the assignment is to contribute to reducing the risk of recidivism and increasing receptiveness to treatment. If necessary, you will also provide support and guidance to colleagues to promote a professional approach and increase knowledge about clients' conditions.
The work is characterized by freedom under responsibility, where you independently plan and structure your efforts. You will receive regular supervision and an introduction to the facility's safety work, legislation, and regulations. Here, you combine clinical depth with a clear societal mission in an environment where your expertise makes a concrete difference.
