Family Therapist in the School Social Team

Here you will have the opportunity to work on strengthening presence, goal fulfillment, and well-being in schools for students in grades F-9 with repeated school absenteeism and who risk not achieving their educational goals.

As a family therapist in our School Social Team (SST), you will work in a collaborative model between schools and social services.

The position is a temporary contract running from June 1, 2026, to May 30, 2027.

The School Social Team is part of the preventive and promotional area, which is a part of the social services within the Kungsholmen district administration. This area also includes field assistants, family therapists at parent reception, social workers in the reception group, two playgrounds, a youth center, two group leaders, and an area manager.

Your role

As a family therapist in SST, you work both preventively and on behalf of social services. You conduct an in-depth mapping of the student and work systematically and knowledge-based to create change for the student. You have a clear child perspective that permeates your work. The family's needs guide how you plan and schedule your work. You work independently and in close collaboration with other professionals in the team and with the school. Special educators and psychologists work alongside family therapists to support the student, guardians, and school towards the goal of the student having a functioning school situation. You are also expected to contribute to the development of the work within the School Social Team.

Your qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a degree in social work and basic psychotherapy training (step 1 training)
  • experience working with the target group of parents, children, and youth
  • good knowledge of social services' work with children and youth

We consider it an advantage if you have experience working with:

  • children and youth with problematic school absenteeism
  • children and youth with neuropsychiatric disabilities
  • experience working preventively
  • BBIC, Komet, ABC

The position requires high collaboration skills as it involves many contacts with both internal and external partners, as well as the children, youth, and families you work with. You are responsive and confident in your professional role and have the ability to make accurate assessments and priorities. Through your engagement, you create trust and build relationships with various parties through individual conversations or in groups.

The Department of Social Services is responsible for care of persons with disabilities, individual and family care, financial assistance, and labor market measures, as well as field and leisure activities. In 2025, the responsibility for playground activities will be transferred to the department. For certain positions within the Social Services Department, a criminal record check may be required.
