The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is hiring GIS Coordinator and GIS Engineer
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is the leading, guiding, and coordinating authority in civil defense. We ensure that society is prepared for crises, heightened readiness, and war.

We are now looking for colleagues to be part of the team in the unit for geodata and decision support systems and work in our GIS function, which is responsible for the agency's geographic information systems and geodata activities.
Our tools are used as an obvious and natural part of the development of Sweden's crisis preparedness and civil defense together with other actors.
Your responsibilities and tasks
GIS Coordinator
In the role of GIS Coordinator, you will be the hub of our GIS work. You will also work in our GIS environment with various types of development and management.
Your responsibilities include:
- Leading, coordinating, prioritizing, and following up on daily work.
- Maintaining operational planning, implementation, and follow-up.
- Supporting the unit manager with planning, implementation, and follow-up of operations, budget, and finance.
- Leading projects, forums, and collaborating within the agency and with other actors.
- Working with system development and data processing in the agency's GIS environment.
- Providing GIS expertise both within the agency and in contacts with other authorities.
- Monitoring the external environment and following current research and development in the field, both nationally and internationally.
GIS Engineer
You will be an important employee in the development of our geographic information systems and contribute to strengthening our ability to analyze, visualize, and understand complex geographic relationships.
Your responsibilities include:
- Developing, managing, and optimizing the agency's GIS environment.
- Conducting analyses and producing decision support materials.
- Ensuring data quality, metadata management, and robust information flows.
- Automating and streamlining geodata flows.
- Providing GIS expertise both within the agency and in contacts with other authorities.
- Monitoring the external environment and following current research and development in the field, both nationally and internationally.
Your knowledge and skills
We are looking for someone who has:
- Relevant academic education in the field or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
- Experience working with ESRI's ArcGIS platform.
- Experience working with GIS issues and geodata.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Experience in project management.
- Experience in system development or system management in the IT field.
- Experience working in public administration.
- Experience working with FME.
- Experience working with metadata.
- Experience in modeling, predictive analysis related to geodata.

About the employment
We offer you a permanent full-time position that begins with a probationary period.
Your place of employment will be Karlstad, and travel in the position is expected.
The majority of our positions involve placement in a security class. Typically, Swedish citizenship is required. When placed in a security class, a security review with a background check will be conducted before employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Most employees at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency are assigned to military service.
About us
The unit's task is GIS, geodata, satellite services, and remote sensing, as well as collaboration within the EU and the European Space Agency. The assignment also includes managing technical decision support, including quality-assured data and support to users on application. The unit also works with the agency's library and RIB services. The unit is led by a unit manager.
We have an activity-based office where you can choose your workplace according to your needs. By agreement, there may be opportunities to work part of the time remotely. We also offer you the opportunity to take out wellness hours, and you will receive a wellness allowance. For you as a state employee, there are also favorable vacation conditions.
