Company Description

AFRY offers services in engineering, design, digitalization, and consulting. We are dedicated experts in industry, energy, and infrastructure, creating value for future generations. AFRY has Nordic roots with a global reach. Our shared principles – Result driven, Client centric, Empowering, and Accountable – guide us in how we work, develop, and succeed together. Join us in accelerating the transition to a sustainable society.

Job Description

At AFRY Hydro, we are currently 120 employees driving the development of hydropower – from dams and dam safety to geotechnics, hydromechanics, hydraulics, environment, and power stations. We work on both national and international projects and find ourselves in an exciting and expansive phase as a growing Nordic player.

Our team in Hydro focusing on Environment and Sustainability is now looking for our next colleague who wants to make a real difference for the future of hydropower. As a consultant in hydraulics related to dam safety, you will work on various projects alongside several different technical areas on the dam safety side. You will be responsible for performing theoretical calculations on dams such as spillway calculations and modeling to assess dam safety. Site visits may also occur where you will conduct measurements and documentation.

You will be part of a team with extensive expertise in hydraulics and environmental aspects related to hydropower. We have long worked based on a clear strategy for the National Plan for the Review of Large-Scale Hydropower (NAP). In addition, we work on dam safety projects such as in-depth inspections and dam safety evaluations according to RIDAS. Our size, combined expertise, and interdisciplinary approach allow us to offer solutions with a breadth and quality that are unique in the industry.

In this role, you will work on critical and complex projects in close collaboration with other experienced specialists. There are great opportunities to influence and develop in this future-oriented industry, along with the freedom to steer your work and development. We operate throughout the Nordic region, and the project group is largely led remotely. Projects are generally driven from the office or home office, with travel occurring approximately every month or every other month.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we see that you enjoy delving into complex issues and investigations related to hydropower and hydraulics, and are curious to continue learning and developing in the field. You are self-driven and take initiative to find solutions and push the work forward. You communicate clearly and clarify expectations, ensuring that information is conveyed correctly and timely. Equally important for the role is that you enjoy collaboration and building trusting relationships, both with clients and colleagues. You willingly contribute knowledge and ideas while creating space for others to contribute, all to help the team develop and succeed in the best way.

What knowledge and experience do you need?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering
  • Experience in hydropower and dam safety work where you have developed an understanding of dam structures, spillways, water regulation, and hydropower stations, as well as flow dynamics in watercourses and regulated systems
  • Very good command of Swedish in both spoken and written form, as a large part of the role involves report writing and information gathering in Swedish

We consider it an advantage if you have:

  • RIDAS training
  • Driver's license B
  • Drone license
  • Experience as a consultant or from power companies

Since our services may operate in security-classified areas, drug testing and security checks may be required before employment can begin. For all recruitments at AFRY, an ID check, reference checks, and verification of education are always conducted as a basis for employment.
