Blekinge Hospital provides somatic care that requires specialized medical and technical resources and expertise that cannot be accommodated within primary care.

We operate in both Karlshamn and Karlskrona.

The Orthopedic/Surgical Department (OKV) is part of the Orthopedic Clinic at Blekinge Hospital. Our department has 22 beds where orthopedic and surgical patients are cared for before and after planned surgery; we are an elective care department where no emergency patients are treated. Our team consists of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and nursing assistants working towards the same goal: a satisfied and well-informed patient with effective and safe care!

About the Job

As a nurse in the department, you will work with pre- and post-operative care. Planning and preparation for surgery, reporting, mobilization, and pain relief are major parts of the daily work in the department. Good structure and routines ensure that the operation can be as productive as possible; approximately 30-36 patients are operated on each week. The orthopedic procedures we perform include knee and hip replacements, minor and major spinal surgeries, shoulder replacements, and to some extent hand and foot surgeries. Our surgical procedures include various forms of urological surgeries, breast surgeries of different kinds, abdominal surgeries, weight loss surgeries, and gallbladder surgeries.

In total, we care for about 25 different types of orthopedic and surgical procedures in the department. The patients treated in the department are well-prepared and healthy before their surgeries. The short hospital stays lead to quick and positive interactions with our motivated patients. The department has a good working environment where we are helpful and care for each other. There is a positive team effort focused on the best interests of the patient.

We operate around the clock and currently only open four full weekends a year. On other weekends, the department closes on Saturday and is therefore closed on Sunday.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse who is passionate about working in the surgical field. We prefer that you have a good ability to work in a planned and organized manner both in teams and individually. We also expect you to have good collaboration skills and a desire to contribute to our positive work environment; we take pride in our cheerful and positive atmosphere, and it should be enjoyable to come to work!

In the department, we actively work with students. Personal suitability is of great importance. Region Blekinge will place all permanently employed staff in crisis management.

Applicants who are considered for employment must present an extract from the Police Authority's criminal record before employment, form 442-9.

Some of our positions are security classified, where the employee must undergo a security screening interview and background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
