Do you want to work with advanced materials analysis in a high-tech environment where quality, safety, and innovation are in focus? We are now looking for a chemical laboratory engineer for the Materials and Chemical Laboratory at GKN Aerospace in Trollhättan – a role for you who want to combine qualified laboratory work with production support and close collaboration with customers and colleagues.

About the company

GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of GKN Aerospace, which manufactures engine components, aircraft structures, cabin windows, wiring, and much more for many of the world's aircraft. The companies in the Aerospace division that work with parts for aircraft engines together form Engines, and at the facility in Trollhättan, advanced parts for engines for aircraft and space rockets are developed and manufactured. They also work with engine maintenance.

GKN Aerospace has production facilities in Trollhättan, Kongsberg (Norway), Mexico, and the USA. They also have an engineering office in Bangalore, India, and offices in Stockholm (Public Affairs) and Gothenburg. The headquarters for Engines is located in Trollhättan.

The Materials and Chemical Laboratory is part of Engineering Operations at GKN Aerospace Engine Systems in Trollhättan and consists of approximately 40 engineers in metallography and chemistry. The department supports production, aftermarket, commercial and government programs, as well as research through qualified laboratory investigations.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting and evaluating chemical analyses and contributing to technical investigations and improvement work. You will work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues, operators, and customers.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, analyzing, and evaluating liquids and materials such as powders, plastics, and metallic materials

  • Documenting results and writing technical reports

  • Supporting production and process operators, for example, in surface treatment and workshop environments

  • Participating in technical studies related to new methods, validations, and safety requirements

  • Contributing to the development and review of quality system procedures

  • Coordinating and evaluating external laboratory tests

The work also includes the analysis of chemicals such as acids, cutting fluids, oils, and fuels using various analytical instruments.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry or another relevant field and experience in laboratory work. You are analytical, structured, and quality-conscious, with a strong safety mindset for both people and the environment.

We would like you to have:

  • Experience in chemical analysis and laboratory environments

  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work towards set goals and deadlines

  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

  • Good proficiency in IT tools and preferably experience with laboratory or quality systems

As a person, you are open, flexible, and enjoy collaborating with others. You are communicative, take responsibility for your tasks, and have a desire to continuously develop and improve work methods and processes.

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where GKN's customer has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, entail requirements for certain citizenship.
