We are looking for a Nurse or Stoma Therapist for the Surgical Outpatient Clinic at Norrtälje Hospital

About the position

The position is a rotation role where the working hours are allocated 50 percent at the Surgical Outpatient Clinic and 50 percent at Ward 3. The work is scheduled during the daytime, Monday to Friday.

As a stoma therapist at the Surgical Outpatient Clinic, you will have your own clinic and work with patients who have undergone surgery and received a stoma. You will also work in a multidisciplinary team with the usual nursing tasks on the ward with patients who have undergone elective or emergency surgery with complex care needs, including nutritional probes, drainage, stomas, and treatment of advanced wounds.

Your responsibilities include:

• Educating and mentoring staff within the hospital.
• Teaching stoma care to patients and their relatives.
• Participating in the Region's network for Stoma Therapists.
• Providing preoperative information to patients and following up with them after surgery.
• In consultation with colorectal surgery, identifying and marking suitable placement for the stoma before surgery.
• Independently assessing, treating, and following up with patients who have received a stoma.
• Conducting fittings for stoma bags.
• Receiving and managing referrals, planning and booking for the outpatient work.
• Having prescribing rights and being responsible for stoma materials.
• Providing telephone advice and conducting home visits.
• Revising and developing new routines and guidelines by monitoring new research and environmental scanning.

About you

For this position, you need to:

• Be a licensed nurse with several years of clinical experience.
• Have a B driver's license and driving experience.

It is advantageous if you also have:

• Specialist training in surgery or training in stoma therapy, for example through commissioned education.
• Experience in outpatient work.
• Clinical experience in surgery or wound care as a nurse, but previous experience as a nursing assistant is also considered an advantage.

You possess personal maturity that enables you to act steadily and with good judgment even in complex situations. Your good collaborative skills are valuable in working with patients, colleagues, and other professions. You appreciate being able to work independently with great responsibility as well as collaborating in multidisciplinary teams. Mentoring and educating others is something you enjoy and do with great commitment. You are structured in your work and methodical in your approach.
