Senior Data Platform Architect Wanted for Region Skåne
AB CLEANEOSkåne län, Lund
Previous experience is desired
Job Description
We are currently seeking a senior data platform architect on behalf of our client.
Region Skåne is engaged in a strategic initiative to become a more data-driven region. To meet future needs in healthcare, research, planning, and innovation, a modern, scalable, and reliable data platform is required to enable effective use of data.
The purpose of the assignment is to ensure the architecture, working methods, and implementation of Region Skåne's common data and information platform. The focus is on how data should be collected, structured, made accessible, and reused. The goal is to create conditions for high-quality data products that the organization can find, understand, and use independently, without unnecessary reliance on central functions and with shorter lead times from need to insight.
The role is architecture- and delivery-driven, focusing on the capabilities and working methods of the data platform. Region Skåne is looking for a person with solid experience and clear, well-founded perspectives on how to work with a modern data platform, for example regarding data extraction, access and authorization management, reusability, metadata, data quality, and data governance.
The assignment does not include responsibility for application-level software design (e.g., code structure and design patterns). Instead, the architect is expected to formulate principles, direction, and solution proposals within the data platform area, and then collaborate closely with developers and data engineers who will produce the concrete software design and implementation.
The architect is also expected to collaborate closely with product owners, domain architects (data), and system architects to analyze requirements and needs, prioritize, and ensure that initiatives are realized.
You will be part of a central platform team consisting of a product owner, two software developers, and two data engineers. The team has a strong implementation capability and a clear delivery focus, with short lead times from idea to realization.
The team's mission is to build a metadata-driven data platform that enables the creation and availability of data products with a high degree of automation and support for multiple technical platforms.
The team is also responsible for delivering a data catalog that makes it easier for various stakeholders to search in Region Skåne's data landscape to find relevant data, as well as to access metadata to understand how data is structured and how it has originated (lineage).
The platform should support Business Intelligence, advanced analytics, and AI, and should be dimensioned for data at a very large scale (petabyte scale) with high requirements for performance, traceability, and information security.
Main Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the architecture and design of parts of Region Skåne's data and analytics platform.
- Transform undefined requirements, questions, and wishes into clear needs, solution proposals, and actionable plans.
- Drive the realization of identified initiatives through proper prioritization, collaboration, and follow-up within the team.
- Contribute to the further development of the platform's roadmap.
- Design and further develop frameworks and working methods for how Region Skåne works with data platforms and data products (including processes for development and management).
- Design how central data platform capabilities should be implemented, including the need to replace or further develop existing solutions.
- Ensure that architecture, working methods, and solutions are consistent with Region Skåne's data management strategy and relevant security requirements.
- Support data engineers and developers in architecture and design issues related to the data platform.
- Collaborate with the business, product owners, and other stakeholders regarding needs, priorities, goals, and communication of changes.
- Document architecture, solutions, frameworks, and decisions in a structured and accessible manner.
Expected Deliverables:
- Documented architecture descriptions and design principles for the central building blocks of the data platform.
- Recommended working methods and guidelines for data products (e.g., metadata, quality, access, and reusability).
- Input to the platform's roadmap and concrete backlog artifacts (epics, features, and user stories) in collaboration with product owners.
- Documented architectural decisions and traceability between needs, decisions, and implementation.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Senior and practically grounded experience in architecture and design of data platforms (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, and/or lakehouses).
- Very good experience with data products (definition, establishment, lifecycle, quality, metadata, and consumption).
- Solid experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Solid experience with Databricks.
- Experience in making data available in data catalogs.
- Documented ability to take undefined requirements and translate them into clear needs, recommendations, and actionable plans.
- Good ability to communicate and document solution architecture in an educational manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Synapse.
- Experience with Power BI or equivalent BI platform.
- Experience with AI, Machine Learning, and advanced analytics.
- Experience with Data Governance, Data Quality Management, and/or Master Data Management.
- Experience with metadata-driven working methods and high automation in data product development (e.g., templates, generation, and frameworks).
- Experience with API architecture and integration patterns.
- Experience from healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
- Relevant certifications in Azure, for example.
Personal Attributes Valuable for This Position:
- Structured and analytical with a good ability to break down complex problems.
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable driving issues from ambiguity to concrete plans.
- Pragmatic and collaborative with the ability to create consensus between technology and business.
- Quality-conscious and long-term in their approach to work.
