We are looking for a senior and self-driven Java consultant for a strategic and technically advanced assignment with our client in Sundsvall. The assignment has a strong focus on migration and modernization of Java-based applications to a container platform.

This is a consulting assignment – not an employment.

Our client is undergoing a technical transition from IBM WAS to OpenLiberty with a target architecture on Red Hat OpenShift. The migration is supported by OpenRewrite, including the development and adaptation of custom OpenRewrite recipes used by the development team.

You will:

• Participate in further development of the created Proof of Concept
• Drive and support migration from Java 8-based code
• Create and adapt OpenRewrite recipes
• Act as a technical mentor and support to the development team
• Work with code analysis, code migration, and system development
• Manage containerization and platform adaptation
• Work with DevOps, CI/CD, testing, architecture, and application analysis
• Participate in both development and maintenance-related work

This is an assignment that requires a commitment of 90%, with the possibility of 100%.

It is a longer assignment. Start as soon as possible, no later than March 31.

You must have:

• Extensive experience as a system developer in Java on a distributed service-oriented platform
• Very deep knowledge of Java and code migration between versions
• Deep understanding of backward compatibility and breaking changes in Java
• At least 2 years of experience in system development using container technology (Kubernetes)
• Fluent Swedish in speech and writing

You should also have:

• Experience with IBM WAS and OpenLiberty
• Experience with OpenRewrite and migration between Java frameworks
• Deep knowledge of Java 6 and 8, including improvements in Java 8
• Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, ArgoCD, and Helm
• Experience with Docker, Podman, and optimization of container images
• Experience with Maven and/or Gradle
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps work
• Version control in Git and knowledge of branching strategies
• Experience with unit, integration, regression, and performance testing
• Database knowledge (JDBC, JPA/Hibernate, connection pooling)
• Experience with advanced Java 8 features (Streams, Lambda, Optional, Date/Time API)
• Experience with microservices architecture, REST API design, and design patterns
• Experience from larger IT organizations (at least 100 employees)
