Residential Support Worker in Social Psychiatry
In Trelleborg, we work together for a growing successful community where it is good to live. Our 61 villages and 21 districts are creative meeting places that bubble with life. Here we want things to happen, tell stories about them, and come just as we are. This makes us welcome others in the same generous and curious way.
Welcome to take your place on the journey!
The mission of the Social Administration is to work with social services and provide support so that everyone in the municipality feels safe and has the same opportunities in life. We want everyone to be able to be active and involved in society. With a focus on respect for the individual's right to decide over their own life, we are responsible for three important areas: care and support, assistance for people with disabilities, and help for individuals and families. Our goal is for everyone to receive the support and care they need.
Since everything Trelleborg Municipality does is based on our values of openness, respect, and responsibility, it is important and crucial that these values feel as self-evident to you as they are to us in our work.
The Workplace
With us in the support team, you will have the opportunity to work in an organization where your commitment truly makes a difference. We meet people in their everyday lives and support them in creating safety, structure, and quality of life – on their terms. The target group is primarily individuals aged 18–65, and the purpose of the service is to provide support in various ways to help them cope in society – both in everyday and working life. This is a job where you use both your heart and your professional judgment.
Our workplace is characterized by close collaboration, curiosity, and a lack of prestige. We support each other in our daily work, share knowledge, and find solutions together.
Right now, we are facing changes, where two residential support services – focusing on LSS and social psychiatry – will be merged. This means we are building a common service with broad competence, greater collegial support, and developed working methods. For you as a new employee, this means the opportunity to influence, shape structures, and contribute to the future of residential support.
With us, you work independently, but never alone. You will receive a clear introduction, continuous supervision, and the opportunity to influence how we develop our working methods. We value initiative, ideas, and the courage to think outside the box – and we believe that the best solutions often arise in dialogue.
Our employees thrive because they feel that their work is meaningful and that every effort truly makes a difference. They also highlight community, good colleagues, and a strong team spirit as central parts of job satisfaction. In everyday life, there is variation, freedom, and responsibility, which creates both motivation and development. Additionally, a safe working environment is offered where humor and heart are natural elements.
Job Responsibilities
The purpose of the role as a residential support worker is to provide individually tailored support to individuals with mental disabilities to strengthen their independence, participation, and ability to manage their daily lives. The role should contribute to increased quality of life for the individual and support recovery in accordance with the assistance decision according to the Social Services Act (SoL).
As a residential support worker in social psychiatry, you have the following responsibilities and main tasks:
- Implement approved residential support according to SoL based on the implementation plan
- Support the individual in daily structure, housing, social contacts, and community participation
- Work recovery-oriented with a focus on the individual's resources and goals
- Document according to applicable legislation and the organization's routines
- Collaborate with colleagues, relatives, and other actors such as psychiatry and authorities
- Notice changes in the individual's well-being and, if necessary, initiate appropriate actions
Qualifications
To be considered for the position, a high school education in social work, care, and support, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer is required. Additionally, experience working with individuals with mental health issues or mental disabilities is required, as well as being comfortable executing interventions according to the social services' current assistance decisions.
The tasks involve contact with both users and partners, which requires a good ability to express oneself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as well as basic documentation skills. You also need to have basic IT skills (e.g., operational systems, email, Office) and experience working with social documentation. Since the job involves daily travel, a valid B driver's license for a manually shifted vehicle is required.
We place great importance on personal suitability for the position. You need to be stable, empathetic, and have a good ability to create trusting relationships. You should also be collaborative and service-oriented, communicate respectfully, and be able to adapt to different needs and situations. You also have the ability to plan and prioritize your work based on current implementation plans and the organization's goals.
Meritorious for the position are: Post-secondary education in social psychiatry, psychiatry, or similar, work experience with various disabilities and comorbidity, experience with recovery-oriented working methods and/or experience working in municipal operations.
Before an employment offer, an acceptable extract from the police's criminal record must be presented along with identification documents.
