Vattenfall Hydropower is responsible for Vattenfall's 90 hydropower plants and about 300 dams in the Nordic region. We have about 500 employees in Sweden and Finland with our headquarters in Luleå. The renewable electricity production from hydropower is a prerequisite for creating a climate-smart and fossil-free society, where we play an important role as enablers for the sustainable energy systems of the future. Our production corresponds to about 25% of Sweden's total electricity needs. We are now looking for a power system specialist for the Power Station Technology department!

Do you want to be involved in developing the hydropower of the future? We work for sustainable development and long-term management of our hydropower stations. We are a dedicated team with specialist expertise in electricity production, hydropower, and power station technology, and we are now looking for you who want to be part of our work.

Are you experienced in hydropower technology and electricity production and very interested in working with calculations, regulation methodology, sizing, testing methods, analysis of production data, grid codes, and trends in these areas?

Examples of tasks:

  • Development work for grid codes, internal guidelines, and processes - considering legal aspects in interpreting and applying regulatory requirements
  • Develop testing methods for unit changes
  • Analyze and verify testing and simulation results
  • Develop and improve guidelines and specifications for the power system area
  • Collaborate with other specialists to develop and expand the regulation capability of the units
  • Participate in status assessments for future investments
  • Ensure contracts with external suppliers.

The work is varied, and you will be offered the freedom to act and good opportunities to influence how we develop our facilities at a time when hydropower is a very important part of Sweden's total electricity mix.

You will participate in feasibility studies, project implementations, and provide specialist support. Ongoing collaborations with technical consultants, contractors, and suppliers are part of the job. You may also have a role in dialogues with authorities, grid companies, and other hydropower producers.

Requirements

  • Several years of relevant work experience and a very good understanding of the structure of the power system, focusing on hydropower and electricity production
  • Bachelor's degree, master's degree, or higher in fields such as energy, mechanical engineering, electrical power, electrical engineering, or technical physics
  • Experience in technical advisory roles and working with trends and developments in your field.

You have worked with some of the following areas:

  • Connection codes (RFG) and facility components
  • Testing methods, simulation, and applied testing in hydropower plants
  • Analysis, investigation, interpretation of standards, and development of specifications
  • Modeling, sizing, optimization, and regulation methodology.

You are proactive, responsible, structured, and have a strong interest in your subject areas. You express yourself clearly in speech and writing (Swedish and English) and have good IT skills. A driver's license (B) is required.
