About the job as a strategic buyer

As a strategic buyer, you will have a central and business-critical role where you are responsible for developing and managing the supplier base. You will work strategically with procurement, negotiation, and supplier development in close collaboration with internal functions such as CAM, BU, SQM, and operational purchasing. The role is characterized by a clear technical focus and significant responsibility for cost, quality, and delivery reliability.

Your tasks will include working with supplier assessments, analyzing cost developments, and driving commercial issues related to contracts and claims. You will actively contribute to reducing TCO and ensuring a competitive and approved supplier base within the manufacturing industry.

Examples of tasks:

• Evaluate new suppliers and develop and manage existing supplier relationships.
• Be responsible for procurement according to the applicable purchasing process in GMS.
• Send inquiries, evaluate offers, and negotiate with suppliers.
• Establish, manage, and communicate contracts.
• Analyze cost calculations and drive contract renegotiation.
• Measure, analyze, and follow up on supplier performance and implement improvement plans.
• Be responsible for supplier data and item connections in IFS.
• Initiate and conduct purchase preparation in collaboration with operational buyers and SQM.
• Handle commercial settlements in claims cases.

The candidate we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a technical interest and preferably experience from the manufacturing industry. You have a good understanding of technical products and processes and thrive in a role where you can combine business acumen with technology. As a person, you are analytical, structured, and confident in negotiation situations, with the ability to collaborate with many different stakeholders.

We would like you to have:

• A technical background, such as a mechanical engineer or technical project manager.
• Experience in strategic purchasing within the manufacturing industry.
• A technical interest, preferably experience with lathes and milling machines.
• Experience in supplier evaluation, procurement, and contract negotiation.
• Good ability to analyze costs and drive commercial decisions.

The position requires that you undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where SAAB has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, entail requirements for certain citizenship.
