The County Administrative Board is a driving force for a sustainable society.

We work together with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other stakeholders focusing on Västra Götaland County and our 1.7 million inhabitants. The County Administrative Board has a broad operation and a very important role in several areas of society.

This is particularly true for the highly relevant challenges of regional growth, implementing the green transition, developing civil defense, and nurturing democracy.

The County Administrative Board is a regional government authority with about 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We operate in several locations in Västra Götaland but also throughout Sweden as we are responsible for the IT operations for all county administrative boards.

Job Description

We are looking for a coordinating professional hunter with a marine focus to work within the 8+ fjord area in the municipalities of Stenungsund, Kungälv, Orust, Tjörn, and Uddevalla. The role is operational and involves planning, coordination, and implementation of wildlife management efforts in coastal environments.

You will be a key person in a targeted government assignment regarding the field-based execution of a study on predation reduction of seals and cormorants to benefit predatory fish. The work is conducted in close and ongoing collaboration with researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, who are responsible for the scientific design and follow-up of the efforts. The study is also conducted as a measure within the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management's action program for the marine environment. The predation-reducing study will last for 5 years.

As a coordinating professional hunter, you will lead and participate in practical fieldwork, often by boat and under varying seasonal and weather conditions. You are responsible for ensuring that efforts are carried out safely, systematically, and in a hunting and animal ethics-compliant manner, as well as for coordinating work between different fjord systems and stakeholders. The role includes translating methodology and study design into practical fieldwork, as well as contributing to data collection, documentation, and quality assurance of implemented measures.

An important part of the assignment is to build and maintain local contacts, for example with hunting rights holders, landowners, local residents, and other stakeholders. The assignment includes work in areas where access to hunting rights is a prerequisite for implementation, which requires a good ability to work trust-building and long-term in collaboration with local interests.

The work also involves ongoing documentation, reporting, and participation in the development of scaring and setups for predation reduction.

The work involves flexible working hours and may, if necessary, include work outside regular office hours.

The employment is governed by the needs of the operation over a framework period of one year. This means that you will be offered work opportunities when there is a need. Each work opportunity is a separate employment that you have the right to accept or decline. You are therefore only employed on the days you have accepted work.

We are always developing our operations, and you therefore need to be open to the possibility that your tasks may change over time.

The Fisheries Function is part of the County Administrative Board's Nature and Water Department. At the Fisheries Function, we work long-term for sustainable fish stocks and for long-term sustainable fishing in both inland waters and the sea. This includes distributing financial support for fish management and liming operations, managing fish management areas, conducting fishing supervision, monitoring fishing interests in community planning, reviewing applications for permits and exemptions under fisheries legislation, and protecting and preserving endangered species in water. The Fisheries Function also participates in various projects related to water and fish. Additionally, the Fisheries Function assists other departments and units within the authority in various projects and in the work of distributing grants and EU support within the water area and fishing industry.
