About the Workplace

Vårviks Gård is one of the Preparatory Units of the Employment Market Unit, where labor market initiatives are conducted for participants who, for various reasons, are far from the regular labor market.

Attached to the operation are three work supervisors with different focuses and a counselor who distributes their service across all operations of the Preparatory Unit.

The tasks that participants perform on the farm are varied and related to farm management such as animal care, cultivation, and some renovation work according to old traditions.

On the farm, there are pigs, horses, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits, and cats, and the animals are used both in daily operations and as a pedagogical resource in the work-oriented activities.

We are now looking for an animal caretaker who has overall responsibility for the animals and who, together with the work supervisors, will continue to develop the operations.

Job Responsibilities

As an animal caretaker, you will have the main responsibility for animal husbandry in the operation, and your tasks will include:

• Main responsibility for daily animal care and the well-being of the animals
• Care and management of the animals in the operation
• Feeding, mucking out, supervision, and maintenance of stables, pastures, and farm environment
• Establishing, monitoring, and adjusting feed rations
• Contact and cooperation with veterinarians and monitoring of animal health
• Responsibility for routines regarding animal welfare, hygiene, and safety, and contact with the County Administrative Board as needed
• Collaboration with colleagues on the farm

Some of the tasks will be performed together with work supervisors and participants on the farm.

Schedule during weekdays including public holidays and every other weekend.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has: (requirements)

• Animal care education with a focus on farm animals
• Experience in practical animal care of farm animals
• Good knowledge of animal health, feed science, and animal welfare legislation
• Ability to work independently and take overall responsibility for animal husbandry
• Good knowledge of Swedish
• Ability to work every other weekend
• Driver's license B
• Flexibility in work as the operation is conducted with live animals and tasks may need to be adjusted based on the animals' well-being

Meritorious

• Experience in labor market measures, supervision, or social work
• Experience working on a 4H farm or similar educational animal activities

Personal Qualities

You are responsible, secure, and structured, with a strong commitment to animal welfare. You are flexible and understand that working with animals sometimes requires adjustments in working hours and tasks based on the animals' needs. You have a pedagogical and respectful approach and enjoy combining practical animal work with meeting people from different backgrounds and circumstances.

As the farm is an open farm for visitors, you need to enjoy social contacts and have a professional demeanor.

The Preparatory Unit is undergoing development of both operations and working methods, and you will be part of continuing the work that has begun. Therefore, you need to be driven to work with operational development and find new solutions. To thrive with us, you need to have a high degree of independence and responsibility and good collaboration skills.
