Increasing rainfall and snowmelt are raising the risk of flood damage, while urban densification limits areas for stormwater management and snow storage.
However, there is a lack of knowledge and solutions for stormwater management tested in cold climates. These are challenges that need to be addressed by municipalities and water companies together. With innovation, research, and new collaboration models, Umeå is leading the way to create robust solutions.
We are looking for a project manager
We are looking for a project manager who wants to take the lead in groundbreaking climate adaptation work in northern Sweden. This involves coordinating the development of stormwater solutions and snow management in a dense and growing city – with a focus on sustainability, collaboration, and innovation.
About the role
As a project manager, you will be the hub of a collaborative project between Umeå Municipality, Vakin, Luleå University of Technology, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for driving the project from planning to implementation and ensuring that we achieve our goals:
- Test and evaluate new stormwater solutions and snow management strategies.
- Develop collaboration models between municipal companies, administrations, and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to research and knowledge dissemination nationally and internationally.
You will lead the project's governance, coordination, and follow-up, and be a key person in creating engagement and participation among all parties. You will work closely with a project manager colleague who leads another externally funded project within electrified contracts.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a strong drive for sustainable development and experience in leading complex projects. You are structured, communicative, and solution-oriented – and see opportunities where others see obstacles. You also need to understand and create understanding between people with different competencies.
You have the ability to:
- Create structure and quality in project management.
- Inspire and engage various stakeholders in a common direction.
- Develop new working methods and drive change in traditional organizations.
- Communicate clearly and pedagogically, both internally and externally.
- Write reports on project implementation with a focus on societal benefit and similar.
Education
We are looking for someone with an academic degree in a relevant field, such as civil engineering, environmental and climate technology, social sciences, project management, or similar. Alternatively, you have acquired equivalent knowledge through work experience. It is an advantage if you have further education in climate adaptation or sustainable urban development.
Experience
Documented experience in leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders and large budgets.
Experience in change management and process development.
Familiarity with public procurement and understanding of LOU.
Experience in collaboration between the public sector and industry, preferably within water, construction, or climate adaptation.
Meritorious: Knowledge of stormwater management, snow management, Agenda 2030, and gender mainstreaming.
