Postdoctoral Researcher in Information Technology

The University of Skövde is a central and leading actor in education, research, and collaboration supporting the transition to a sustainable future – regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our 10,000 students and 500 employees create conditions for society's digital transformation and sustainable societal development through high-quality education and research in selected areas. Welcome to a vibrant campus in the heart of Skaraborg.

About Us

The operations within the Department of Data and Systems Science are characterized by a creative and dynamic environment, which includes a very good collaborative climate, modern facilities, and excellent cooperation with the surrounding community. The position is within the subject of information technology, which at the University of Skövde is defined as the subject that deals with how information is represented, processed, and communicated in artificial and natural systems, as well as how information technology systems are used and developed to achieve useful system solutions for individuals, organizations, or society. The Department of Information Technology conducts education and research in this subject area. At the University of Skövde, we work together, closely and interdisciplinary, to create engagement, quality, and results on a vibrant campus. We take joint responsibility for tasks and work towards the goals of the organization. The university's conditions create good opportunities for proximity and collaboration between departments, divisions, students, colleagues, and partners.

Your Role

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will conduct research in information technology and be part of the research group Information Systems. The Information Systems research group consists of about 15 researchers and has the main focus of contributing to both theory and practice in the development of organizations and information systems. Both organizational and technical aspects are included with the goal of developing high-quality information systems that effectively meet users' needs. The group's research is related to our two bachelor's programs in Business Intelligence and Systems Science, as well as our master's program in Information Security. Primarily, the Information Systems group researches the following areas: Business Intelligence, Digitalization, Health Informatics, and Information Security.

In several of our ongoing projects where we research, among other things, the resilience of critical infrastructure, governance of healthcare, self-monitoring in healthcare, and visualization of real-time data from sensors in public operations, Data Governance is a recurring challenge. Without accessible and reliable high-quality data, it is difficult to make good decisions and manage, adapt, and change operations in everyday life, crises, and wars.

Thanks to our extensive network, you will be able to study Data Governance challenges and solutions in several ongoing research projects in various organizations and application areas. The projects you become involved in will be guided by your previous experiences and current interests. Based on the applied research we conduct daily, you will be able to create theoretical contributions and publish them in reputable journals. Even though you will be involved in data collection and data analysis, your role will primarily be to assist in translating research results into high-quality publications. You are also expected to contribute to writing research applications.

Additional tasks may be included in the position.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • completed a PhD in information technology or another relevant subject, with a focus on information systems and specifically Data Governance, Business Intelligence, or Health Informatics
  • a broad foundational competence in systems science and thus an ability to understand and analyze both the data-related, technological, and socio-organizational aspects of Data Governance
  • documented good ability to publish high-quality journal publications
  • documented good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English
  • documented good collaborative skills.

We will also value the following assessment criteria in the hiring process:

  • PhD completed no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • The degree of skill required for eligibility.
  • Experience studying Data Governance in the private or public sector.
  • Experience studying data-driven decision-making and visualization of real-time data from sensors.
  • Experience studying situational awareness and decision-making in crisis management or total defense.
  • Experience studying the resilience of critical infrastructure.
  • Experience studying the digitalization of healthcare.

In this appointment, great importance will be attached to documented good ability to publish high-quality journal publications.
