Description

At Hovåsskolan, approximately 600 students attend from preschool class to grade 9, as well as in adapted primary school grades 1 to 9.

There is also an after-school program with four departments. Hovåsskolan is located near the sea and forest. We utilize nature both during lesson time and during after-school activities.

We are now looking for a special education teacher for adapted primary school with a focus on intellectual disabilities. The position involves teaching a class of 5–10 students where you have overall responsibility for their knowledge development. The student group includes students with severe to mild intellectual disabilities and/or functional variations and/or ASD (autism, behavioral issues).

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the instruction and work directly with students in teaching situations. You create a safe learning environment by being attentive to the individual conditions and needs of the students. In addition to teaching, you are responsible for planning, execution, development, and evaluation. This is done in consultation with the class team, which consists of you and teaching assistants. There is close collaboration with three other teaching colleagues within the structure and organization of the program.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

• is a licensed teacher with qualifications to teach in adapted primary school.
• is an educated special education teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities.
• has experience working in adapted primary school with various student groups/functional variations.
• has experience with AAC and knowledge of clear pedagogical approaches and low-arousal responses.

As a person, you have the ability to collaborate with others to perform tasks and organize work to contribute to a safe learning environment for the students. You are driven to create engagement and participation and can motivate others, both students and teaching assistants, to create the best possible conditions for learning.

The position also requires you to be flexible with good assessment and adaptation skills. You can effectively identify and analyze the core of a problem and suggest possible solutions. Finally, you are confident and can balance demands while maintaining calm in difficult situations.
