Avesta Hospital is a smaller county hospital with an emergency department open 24/7, outpatient clinics, and three care departments. We provide local healthcare for residents of southern Dalarna and northern Västmanland and have a wide range of specialized outpatient care in internal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology, sleep medicine, stroke follow-up, dementia investigations, and geriatrics.
With about 250 employees, including 40 doctors, we have a strong educational climate, and our motto is: "Sweden's best junior doctor school" - something that has kept us highly ranked in the medical placements on the AT ranking!
Medical Chief for Acute Medicine, Geriatrics, Rehabilitation in Avesta Responsibilities
As a medical chief, you have overall responsibility for the medical team, which includes personnel, work environment, and financial responsibilities. You report directly to the operations manager and are part of the strategic and operational management team. Together with the operations manager and other leaders, you drive development forward and create care that is constantly improving for our patients. You represent the organization both internally and externally and contribute to good collaboration and a holistic view within Dalarna healthcare.
As the immediate supervisor of the medical team, you lead with presence and engagement. You develop employees and create conditions for good performance and results. You work closely with the team and are a driving force in creating a safe work environment and a sustainable work climate. The position can be combined with clinical duties based on preferences and the needs of the organization, in consultation with the operations manager. Depending on your skills and experience, a role as a Medical Management Responsible Physician (MLA) may also be relevant.
The employment is a three-year appointment as medical chief with the possibility of extension, with a permanent position in your base profession.

Requirements:
- Specialist physician in a relevant field or well advanced in specialty training
- Experience in healthcare
- Valid driver's license (B)
- Very good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
- Basic English

Meritorious:
- Specialist competence in internal medicine, geriatrics, or related fields
- Leadership training or documented leadership experience
- Experience from county hospitals or smaller hospital environments
- Good understanding of Avesta Hospital's broad operations
This position requires you to have a valid license for the relevant profession. Your professional license will be checked against the National Board of Health and Welfare's register of licensed healthcare professionals (HOSP) before any job offer.
