Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees.
Our main goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a correctional officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, where everyone is responsible for different roles in carrying out client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.
TA's assignments are varied, meaning your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you have an unchanged start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes are communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you work more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you work less, you will still receive your normal salary.
You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will also be trained in carrying OC spray. You will receive a salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
- Good computer skills.
- A valid driver's license (B) and driving experience.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Work experience in correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Relevant language skills.
