The department is located in the new hospital on the 9th floor with a fantastic view over Malmö. The operation has grown significantly over the past year to meet the future needs of kidney care. All patients have single rooms. Everything is new and modernized in terms of facilities, equipment, and working methods, leading to new opportunities to develop the operation. The kidney and transplantation department is part of the area of operation (VO) kidney medicine, rheumatology, and endocrinology. The department is a hybrid department where we care for patients who are to be or have been transplanted as well as patients within kidney medicine. This fall, we have started caring for hospitalist patients from surgery and urology. In other words, an exciting mix that gives you a broad competence.

In kidney medicine, we care for patients with acute illness, but also those with chronic illness. Examples of diagnoses include vasculitis, nephrotic syndrome, and various forms of nephritis. We assist patients in obtaining access before starting dialysis and address issues with existing accesses. The transplantation surgery includes both planned and emergency kidney transplants. Sometimes we also care for patients before and after pancreas transplants. Another important part of the operation is the treatment of rejection reactions after transplantation. Following a severely ill kidney patient who has been transplanted and then leaves the department with a functioning kidney again is very rewarding.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The department currently has 24 care places on weekdays and 18 places on weekends. The plan is to open up to 24 places every day of the week by spring 2025. We work in teams consisting of a nurse and a nursing assistant. Each team is responsible for six to seven patients, in close collaboration with the responsible medical team. Together, you will plan the tasks for the shift. You will also work with coordinators, operations, physiotherapists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers. Patients come to us both electively and acutely, which means that the pace and workload can vary throughout the day.

As a new employee with us, you will receive an individual introduction based on your existing competence. If you have previous experience, we will adapt the introduction to your circumstances. If you are a recent graduate, you will be offered a seven-week introduction that includes both theory and practice in both kidney medicine and transplantation care.

The operation offers a varied, stimulating, and educational workplace where you have the opportunity for personal development and training. Development is important to us, and we hope you will actively contribute to the department's ongoing improvement work. Competence development occurs continuously, both internally and externally.

We work two out of five weekends and have a fixed schedule. We are looking for nurses for day/evening or night shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with permission to work within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale are a requirement for the position. Experience in kidney medicine and/or transplantation surgery is an advantage but not a requirement.

You have a humble attitude towards both patients and colleagues. You are positive, engaged, flexible, and want to develop in your professional role.
