About the District Court

At Umeå District Court, over 80 people work. The court is, in addition to being a general court, one of five district courts in the country that also serves as a land and environmental court. The general department of the court is administratively coordinated with the Rent and Lease Board in Umeå, which is one of eight boards in the country.

Umeå District Court is a modern court that continuously works with structured business development and workplace environment issues for all staff.

  • The court has a well-established workplace environment program
  • The judges' scheduling is structured with fixed on-call days for priority cases, aiming for good predictability and oversight in the work
  • The court continuously engages in various internal and external business development projects, currently including collaboration with the Courts Administration on the use of AI in court work
  • The court meets its operational goals for criminal and civil cases

We are now looking for a deputy judge for our general department.

The work involves

As a deputy judge, you will handle all types of cases and matters that arise at the court, and there may also be some service at the boards. Here, judges, clerks, court administrators, and administrative staff work together and share a common responsibility to ensure that cases and matters are resolved efficiently and fairly. The tasks primarily consist of adjudication, but preparatory tasks, such as mentoring clerks, are also included.

We are looking for someone who

We are looking for someone with well-developed collaboration skills and a holistic view of the court's mission. In addition to being a skilled lawyer, you need to have a high work capacity and be positive towards a digitalized working method in both case management and other tasks. You are open and proactive, can engage other employees, and contribute to a good working climate.

To be considered, you must be or have been a rental judge, a regular judge, a court assessor, or an administrative court assessor, a fiscal in a court of appeal or administrative court, or have performed the duties of a court of appeal or administrative court fiscal for at least six months.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities. Prior to employment, background checks may be conducted.
