Teaching Assistant at Åsbackaskolan

Do you want to help create the best conditions for equal education? At the Swedish National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools, SPSM, we work to ensure that all children, students, and adult learners with disabilities achieve their educational goals. We operate our own special schools in various locations across Sweden. We also provide support to preschools and schools nationwide to collaboratively create learning environments that are developmental and accessible. Additionally, we distribute government grants and develop teaching materials. Together, we remove barriers!

We hope that you, as an applicant, with your background and skills, can help increase our diversity.

We are committed to making everyone's equal value a reality. Together, we use collaboration and expertise to solve tasks. Developing leadership and increasing diversity are some of the items currently on our agenda. Together, we contribute to sustainability in society economically, socially, and environmentally. You can read more about what we offer at www.spsm.se/ledigajobb (http://www.spsm.se/ledigajobb).

All students have the right to a school that allows them to develop based on their own conditions. SPSM operates schools on behalf of the state. We provide students with a learning environment that allows for participation, learning, and development. We offer meaningful, stimulating, and important educational work at our schools.

Åsbackaskolan is located in Örebro and offers education from preschool class to grade 10 for students with congenital deafblindness and students who are deaf or have hearing impairments combined with intellectual disabilities. Our staff is proficient in sign language and has high special competence regarding the needs of our target groups. We offer accommodation for students who cannot commute to school every day.

We provide our students with an environment that allows for participation and development. Everyone can engage in social interaction, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in a bilingual education in a sign language environment.

At Åsbackaskolan, we believe that development and learning occur in all environments and at all hours of the day in a lifelong perspective. Our overarching goal is to provide all our students with the conditions to learn and to be able to live as independently as possible. We place great emphasis on developing students' desire and willingness for social interaction, cooperation, and communication in a sign language environment. Teaching is adapted to each student's conditions and needs. We work with experiential learning as a pedagogical method.

At Åsbackaskolan, we have very good access to various professionals in our student health team and to digital learning tools in a well-equipped IT environment.

We have about 11 employees working at the school or in our student accommodations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of a teaching assistant places high demands on your ability to be attentive and flexible. You should be able to meet students in various situations and who may need a helping hand during their school day and in after-school care. Complex and challenging situations may also arise where you, with your calm demeanor as a teaching assistant, provide the student with a safe response.

As a teaching assistant, you will be part of a team with teachers, and together with them, you will plan the students' school days, which may involve teaching outside the school premises.

In this role, there may also be duties at Birgittaskolan, which is located at the same site as Åsbackaskolan.

The employment is a fixed-term special employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

It is an advantage if you have:

At the school, there is also accommodation for certain students, which requires collaboration with both staff at the student accommodation and other professionals linked to the student's school day.

We have access to interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, so experience and knowledge in handling such tools is an advantage.

  • are independent
  • are good at building relationships
  • have a high ability to collaborate
  • have good judgment and
