We are looking for two resourceful and knowledgeable men with a genuine interest in becoming daily support for a young man with multiple disabilities.

You need to be patient and pedagogical to teach about music, language, and animals to someone who is curious and wants to learn more.

The disabilities require assistance with mobility, so you need to be of average height, healthy, and strong. There is a need to assist with meals, dressing, and personal hygiene. Since he loves water, daily visits to the swimming pool are included. This is why we are only seeking male assistants, so changing can take place in the men's locker room.

His curiosity means you are expected to create and conduct lessons that end with helping him write a short text in Swedish and/or English. You need to be confident in these languages both verbally and in writing. If you know another language, it is a bonus. His knowledge of music is surprisingly extensive and an area where he wants to develop further. Above all, a unique ability to communicate sensitively is required. It's not easy, but when it works, both the assistant and the user can feel satisfied with the day.

The work shifts are 8-9 hours long. Day, evening, and weekend shifts are included. No night work. Half of the shift you work alone and the other half is double assistance with swimming. This makes the work varied and you get to know your nice colleagues. Every other week there is supervision with a psychologist.

This job is suitable for someone who wants a meaningful job where they can make a difference. It could be someone who has not yet figured out what education to pursue while improving their grades. Or a cultural worker, preferably a musician, who needs a basic income. Or a teaching assistant who wants to work more structured one-on-one. Perhaps someone considering studying music pedagogy?

The position starts as a part-time employment with training, and can then transition to a fixed-term contract as long as the assistance assignment lasts, with a working rate of 60-70%.

GIL has coordinated personal assistance since 1989. The cooperative has roots in the Independent Living movement, which is based on the principle that those with disabilities know best how they want to live their lives. Normally, the person receiving assistance is the closest supervisor of the assistants, or a person with special knowledge about the individual is appointed.
