Unit Manager at the Courts Administration

As an employee at the Courts Administration, you have the opportunity to actively contribute to the development of the entire Swedish Courts system, which consists of around 80 courts, authorities, and boards with approximately 7,000 employees. The Courts Administration employs about 400 staff members who work to develop and support the Swedish Courts, with the headquarters located centrally in Jönköping, and local offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Umeå. The Courts Administration is seeking a unit manager to lead and develop the work of the Unit for Operational Development.

With the independence reform, the role of the Courts Administration is strengthened as a driving and supportive force in the development work of the courts and boards. In this work, the Unit for Operational Development plays a central role. As a unit manager with us, you will become a key person in the continued development of operations within the Swedish Courts.

What does the job entail?

Your role as a unit manager means that you lead the unit's work, develop the operations together with the employees, and have personnel and budget responsibilities. With us, leadership, operational responsibility, and employer responsibility are three interrelated parts of successful management. You will be part of the department's management team and take overall responsibility for the work in the department while contributing the unit's perspective to the whole. The department manager and the three unit managers form the department's management team.

The unit has about ten employees who are stationed at the Courts Administration's offices in Jönköping, Malmö, Stockholm, and Gothenburg, which involves travel for work and leading employees remotely.

The assignment as a unit manager includes analyzing how the independence reform affects the support that the unit should provide to the courts and implementing the changes to the unit's work that the reform necessitates. The goal is for the unit to be a powerful force for development in the Swedish courts in accordance with the mandate and direction that the upcoming board decides.

As a unit manager at the Courts Administration, it is crucial that you can collaborate with other parts of the agency so that we act as a unified Courts Administration. This includes collaboration with the Reinforcement Force and the development needs identified in the work at the courts.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who is a regular judge and has experience as a manager with personnel responsibility. It is an advantage if you have experience working in the Government Offices and have worked with operational development and impact realization. Experience in change management and driving cultural transformations is particularly meritorious.

To succeed in this role, you must be self-driven, proactive, and responsible. You have the ability to inspire your employees and support them in their work. You are accustomed to collaborating and creating dialogue in a way that instills trust. As a leader, you are motivated by coaching and motivating your employees. You have the ability to combine a supportive approach with clear expectations and are confident in setting constructive demands. You can make decisions from a holistic perspective and are skilled in communication. You have good pedagogical skills and express yourself well in both speech and writing.

Who are we?

The Department for Court Development consists of three units: the Unit for Operational Development, the Unit for Digital Case and Matter Management, and the Unit for Information Management. The department is led by the department manager. The entire department, consisting of about 50 employees, is collectively responsible for driving and supporting the work of the courts and boards in developing operations, as well as for the development and management of various operational support for case and matter management. The department also provides support to the courts and boards in administrative matters. The department is also responsible for advising and supporting in archival matters and drives development issues in the archival field.

Proactively and innovatively, we develop the Swedish Courts to meet the needs and demands of parties and citizens for fair and swift processing, uniform application of the law, and good service.

The work at the Unit for Operational Development involves collaboration with all departments at the Courts Administration as well as many contacts with courts, boards, the Government Offices, and other authorities within the justice system. The unit is continuously responsible for government assignments.

Additional Information

The employment is permanent with a four-year managerial appointment. The place of employment is Jönköping, Stockholm, Malmö, or Gothenburg. A probationary period may apply.
