Who are we?
The Legal Unit is part of the Legal Department of the Swedish Courts Administration, which also includes the Unit for International Relations. The Legal Unit employs about 15 lawyers, the majority of whom are assessors, as well as one administrator. Employees are located in Jönköping, Malmö, Gothenburg, and Umeå.
The main responsibility of the Legal Unit is to provide legal expertise to other parts of the Swedish Courts Administration and to ensure that there are legal prerequisites for the development work carried out within the Swedish courts.
In addition to internal legal advice, the Legal Unit has a number of other tasks, such as:
- coordinating the Swedish Courts Administration's collection of regulations (DVFS)
- coordinating and responding to all referrals and distributions and following up on the referrals that have been answered when they are deemed to have consequences for the Swedish courts
- handling compensation issues and appeals of the courts' administrative decisions
- coordinating and responding to international surveys about the Swedish legal system
- investigating the need for amendments to regulations and preparing proposals
- representing the Swedish Courts Administration in collaboration groups and networks with other authorities
Lawyers based in Jönköping also typically work on issues related to security, security protection, and preparedness and provide important legal support to the Security Staff.
Your tasks
At the Swedish Courts Administration, extensive and ongoing work is being done to develop digital solutions within various parts of the Swedish courts' operations, which includes the use of various AI services. This work often takes place in collaboration with other authorities. As a lawyer focusing on data protection, you will play an important role in supporting this development.
A large part of your work will involve providing legal support in data protection and AI-related issues, and you will be part of the Legal Unit's data protection group. Your work will mainly consist of producing legal analyses and positions as well as providing legal advice on issues related to data protection and public access and confidentiality. You will participate in the drafting of data processing agreements, assessing cloud services, and managing and developing the support material that the Swedish Courts Administration provides to the courts regarding personal data management.
Your work will involve being an expert in data protection both in relation to other employees in the unit and to other departments and units within the administration. This work includes regularly participating in information classifications and impact assessments of new personal data processing activities and ensuring that the data protection perspective is taken into account in all development.
In addition to data protection issues, you will have other tasks that fall within the Legal Unit's mandate, such as handling referrals and distributions and supporting other departments upon request for the release of public documents. The scope of these tasks may vary.
Who are we looking for?
