As an employee of the Swedish Courts Administration, you have the opportunity to actively contribute to the development of the entire Swedish court system, which consists of around 80 courts, authorities, and boards with approximately 7,000 employees. About 400 employees work at the Swedish Courts Administration to develop and support the Swedish courts, with the headquarters located centrally in Jönköping, and local offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Umeå. Our operations are characterized by trust-based leadership and active employee participation. We strive for an equal workplace and offer interesting tasks in a pleasant and modern environment. We also offer the possibility of remote work.
Who are we?
The Legal Unit is part of the Legal Department of the Swedish Courts Administration, which also includes the unit for international relations. The Legal Unit employs about 15 lawyers, the majority of whom are assessors, as well as an administrator. Employees are located in Jönköping, Malmö, Gothenburg, and Umeå.
The main task of the Legal Unit is to provide legal expertise to other parts of the Swedish Courts Administration and ensure that there are legal prerequisites for the development work being carried out within the Swedish courts.
In addition to internal legal advice, the Legal Unit has a number of other tasks, such as:
- coordinating the Swedish Courts Administration's compilation of regulations (DVFS)
- coordinating and responding to all referrals and distributions and following up on the referrals that have been answered when these are deemed to have consequences for the Swedish courts
- handling compensation issues and appeals of the courts' administrative decisions
- coordinating and responding to international surveys about the Swedish judicial system
- investigating the need for amendments to regulations and preparing requests
- representing the Swedish Courts Administration in collaboration groups and networks with other authorities
Lawyers based in Jönköping also typically work on issues related to security, security protection, and preparedness, providing important legal support to the Security Staff.
Your tasks
As a lawyer in the Legal Unit, you will work on various issues that affect the Swedish courts. You will have qualified legal tasks within different areas of law that may vary over time. The work involves both producing in-depth legal analyses and handling more routine matters. As a lawyer, you play an important role in the various development projects ongoing at the Swedish Courts Administration, participating in different assignments and projects with employees from various parts of the authority. All lawyers also handle referrals and distributions and support other parts of the Swedish Courts Administration upon request for the release of public documents.
Work in the Legal Unit entails close collaboration and coordination with all departments at the Swedish Courts Administration, especially with the Department for Court Development, the Security Staff, and the IT Department. The Legal Unit also has many contacts with courts, boards, the Government Offices, and authorities primarily within the judicial system. Some international contacts may also occur.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is an assessor from the Court of Appeal or Administrative Court and has an interest in working on the development of the Swedish courts.
