Description
The Guidance Center is responsible for study and career guidance for students in Gothenburg City’s primary and secondary schools as well as several independent schools.
We also have Drop-in sessions offering open study and career guidance for youth. The Guidance Center also organizes the Municipal Activity Responsibility, which is a separate unit. We meet in various ways on common issues and contexts in our work.
Responsibilities
As a study and career counselor, you provide the young people you meet with professional, objective, and independent information and guidance. Based on the student's interests, abilities, and dreams, you provide insight into what different professions and educational paths entail and how they can get there. You meet with young people both individually and in groups and conduct lessons aimed at strengthening the student's ability to make choices.
In a group of knowledgeable and experienced counseling colleagues, you receive support in professional dilemmas, inspiration, and ideas. You regularly meet your colleagues in the work team or in other groups where you work based on common needs in your professional everyday life. As a new employee, you will have a mentor who provides you with organizational insight and support based on your needs and wishes during your first year on the job.
When you are hired with us, you will be organizationally part of the Guidance Center, where the majority of our approximately 110 employees are study and career counselors. You report to a unit manager, and most of your time will be spent working at the school or schools for which you are responsible. You will also receive a mentor during your first year and be part of the new employee group. The assignment at the school always requires close collaboration with the principal and staff.

The Guidance Center actively works on the development of its operations within the framework of our systematic quality work and organizes qualified professional development for all staff. Through the various projects we participate in, some employees may also have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing or conferences in another country each year.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has a degree in study and career counseling or is in the final year of study and career counseling education and has experience working with youth. We prefer that you have worked with young people in both primary and secondary schools and are well aware of how trends and events in the world affect young people's everyday lives and views on studies and work.
In your interactions with staff at schools/in the city, you are collaborative and solution-oriented while being clear about what an objective and independent role as a study and career counselor entails.
Your approach to young people is characterized by attentiveness and encouragement. You motivate the youth you meet and give them strength and belief in themselves for future choices. You work from a gender and diversity perspective. As a colleague, it is natural for you to share ideas and experiences to develop the Guidance Center as a whole.
As an applicant for this position, you will be required to answer a number of questions about your competencies in the requested area during the application process. We will base our selection for interviews on these and will therefore not request a personal letter in this process. The goal of this approach is to make the selection objective and accurate.
Other
We are recruiting for both permanent and temporary positions.
For your interview, you need to bring your passport/national ID and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EEA. This is to ensure your identity and confirm that you have the right to work in Sweden.
With reference to the laws regulating background checks, anyone offered this position must present an extract from the criminal record before an employment contract can be established.
For employment to be possible, you need to submit documentation that supports your education.
